I got a Ranch Dog .432" 265 grain 6 cavity mold for my .44's.

I didn't know that didn't come with the handles. :killingpc

Any ideas for a setup that I can use as a substitute to cast a few while i'm waiting for the handles I just ordered to come in?

I checked a few stores locally and they all gave me the GTFO look.

Any tips/ideas, gents? I probably wouldn't even shoot these. I just want to see what the boolit looks like.

In the spirit of casting, I made my own handles this morning. They aren't that great, but at least I'll get to try my new mould for a few boolits this afternoon. :-D

I drilled a 1/4" hole in a 7/8" wooden dowel as far as it would go. Then drilled a 3/8" hole about 1/2 an inch deep. Filled the hole with silicone, and stuck the handles on. It's drying in the sun now, so I haven't tried to use it yet.

This is like learning use a mold all over again.

I'm using a 4lb Lee melter.

Good think I ordered a 20lb pot the other day. This 4lber doesn't work too well with 265 grain 6 cavity molds. :D

Neccesity the Mother of Invention.

[smilie=1:I beg to differ. Invetion is the mother of Neccesity. If it was neccesary before it was invented how did we survive until it was invented?
Of course I also hold the theory that oak trees are the way that acorns reproduced more acorns.

Hey Buddy!
That's a cool looking mould! And, you did a good job on the handles. I would think those pointed ends will cause you all sorts of problems keeping handles on however.

That wood handle on the sprue plate would take some getting use too! Others have; you can too!

I did the same thing as you, made my own out of some scrap metal and they worked just fine. Those Ranch Dog .432 265 gn bullets are great in my .44 mag as well as my .444 marlin. I asked him if he could design the same bullet without the gas check to be used in the .44 mag and he said he was working on it and has had some interest for sometime now.
