I am looking at target shooting cast at 100 yards, off of a rest. I want to shoot in the sporter scoped division. What gun and caliber would you recommend? I want to stay around $1000.
Thanks,
Pete

I shot a group at 100 yards with a Kimber of Oregon M-84 in ... Remington,great sporter,wish I had it back!
But purpose should decide the caliber.More moulds are avalible for .30 than anything it seems, and Savage rifles with the Accutrigger may be a great choice.
Caliber?A .308 would give a wide range of surplus brass I would guess-or best chance to obtain it?

I agree with Madcaster on the Savage. The CBA production class results shows LOTS of them.

I'm sure Felix will chime in here, as he used to run with the big dogs in the game.

If you want to keep things on the cheaper side, I agree with the Savage. As far as caliber, .30 cal is the most versatile with many boolit designs available.

If a factory rifle is required find your self a M70 in good condition in .308W. The push feed is ok. They have a 12" twist instead of the standard 10" twist of most .308Ws these days. The 12" twist is more cast bullet friendly over a wider array of bullets and powders. There is a plethora of match loading tools and equipment for the .308W available. If you can't find the M70 then the Savage is a good choice as mentioned.

Remington 788 in 30-30 or 308.

Gunbroker has a 30-30

308 is a good one, spend the money on a scope and maybe having the throat cut to fit a good boolit.
