I took a little downtime while I was in Iraq last year to help open a school for kids in a little village called Al Noor about 20km south of Kirkuk. 20 kids got a new school and supplies after Al Qaida blew up their schoolhouse in 2005 for teaching girls.

Yeah, I'm not much taller than them.

I shot him with an '06 that was built on a M98 action by Churchill Arms. I bought the rifle from a buddy for $75 in a divorce deal in the late '70s. I rebedded it in a Bell & Carlson stock. Rifle has a very reliable redfield 3x9 AccuTrac scope on it. I was using a 180 gr hornady SPBT right at 2700 fps, 246 yards (rangefinder) with one shot. That has been my favirite hunting rifle for many years and I've taken numerous elk, caribou, deer, coyotes etc. with it. Unfortuneately the throat is getting very rough from shovelling all the IMR4350 down it over the years and accuracy is falling off. I am looking at a rebarrel and thinking of a 26" barrel with 14" twist in '06 with a tight neck for a strictly cast bullet hunting '06.

Nice elk swheeler.

However there are a lot of range days to shoot and when it gets too hot to go shooting I can cast and smelt in my swamp cooled shed next to the trailer.

You know what, I was thinking about your post for a few hours and I believe I WILL give reloading a try. I used to help my grandpa in Maine reload his rounds and I think I got the wadding down pretty well. But he was reloading shotgun shells and I was only 7.

My boat--I gave it up during my (amicable) divorce. I took the kids, he took the Bayliner. Now I fish from the pier but I've got some mighty fine catfish using KFC skin for bait. Yes, I do scale and gut them myself and get the pooper out, too.

I'm no Grizzley Adams, but I can hold my own if it comes to it. Otherwise, I'm just a regular, unglorious beat cop just doing a job the best I can.

I HAVE taught my youngest to always keep one in the pipe, though, and she's pretty good for a little kid. ;) She comes through with some pretty impressive groupings.

I can surely see this is a man's board so I'll mainly educate myself by reading the posts here. I've still got 4 weeks of sick leave left to go and I'm gonna use that time well.

Thanks for having me and I'll do my best to stay out of your way.

Welcome aboard, Maureen, and thanks for your service!

We do have a contingent of women members here. Many evenings some of them can be found in chat! Joni Lynn, Alice, and Dawn are all fairly regular. Stop in sometime!

Secretly, this is actually a forum controlled by women ...

Where you the LEO that our founder (45Nut) had recently spoke of that was ambushed and shot?

KFC is excellent fishing bait by the way.

Yes, I'm afraid so.

Gotta catch a bus to go pic up your target ...

Your bench looks interesting. Is that concrete?

canyon-ghost
09-16-2009, 08:05 PM
That's only 50 meters to the target, here's what the grasslands look like from on top of the canyons (yes, there's above the canyons and down in them).

This would be what the grasslands looked like that the Texas Rangers rode for days and days across. Austin and the Hill Country isn't as flat. See the windmill in the center?

This is an old NRA range, they're concrete. They have tags on them to say who donated them to the Club.

Poor, poor spammer. He was so new here, and so young. Never shall he post here again. We were all so hopeful, as he first tentatively stirred the electrons of the internet. The whole world lay before him, with a myriad of subjects to explore. Instead, he fell into the deepest pits of internet depravity, SPAMMING!

Mo ;)

Lack of ability to grow facial hair is a syptom of severe lead poisoning so we like to keep a running tab on the situation. Like can ya imagine if all of a sudden after 3 years you tried to grow a beard and found out ya couldnt,he11 you would know ya poisoned yerself but ya wouldnt know for how long,1,2,or all 3 years, but if you keep a running meter on it then ya know. They say symptom two is having thoughts that are way out there, so if any of what I just said is sensible to you , bro you is well screwed[smilie=l:

The kudu measured 49.5". One shot with 7x57 at about 125 yds. What an amazing
animal.

They amazed the heck out of me! The kudu is the animal that captivated my imagination back
when I thought you had to be rich to hunt in Africa. I was absolutely amazed to find out
what the real costs were if you only hunted plains game.

That's my better half behind me with another huge grin. She was having a wonderful time,
too.
