After searching here and other places I found "The Load". It was reported that 13.0 gr Reddot is the go to load for reduced velocity in 308 & 30-06 sized cases. So off to the range today with "The load" under some PP boolits and some JHP moly 'J' bullets. PP loads were 130gr and 120gr 'J' load was 90gr. PP loads shot OK, POA and 1700fps ,Only OK, If I tweek the charge I could get better. Moly 'J' load was outstanding. 1' low and left @ 50 yrds 5 shots in a small cluster(5/8"), 1950 fps.

is the load, but I think it is best to be considered as the starting point with some experimentation/tweeking still required.

If you hit it first thing then load development is over and some of the fun is lost on the journey to the best load.

www.gmdr.com/lever/options.htm has an assortment of load data you might want to look at. I have SOME supplies tucked away, but not in the quantity I would like to have.

The 311041 PB from Garandsrus (Thanks my friend!) arrived just before I found a MARLIN 336 Cowboy in 30/30. Referring to the above site, I tried 5.0 of TITEGROUP and got a small group at 50 paces on the first outing. I had the issue MARBLES semi buckhorn rear and bead front sight...not exactly precision equipment! so I'm happy with the starting point. The data listed several popular powders. Use less powder and save the price of gas checks.

My information says ALLIANT PROMO is very similar to RED DOT and it was available at GRAFS (Mexico MO) for around $88 per 8 pounder when I looked last. I may make the 100 mile run there to pick up a couple of 8 pound jugs and some primers. My allowance is in hock for a long time, but it might be longer to get supplies. The local places don't have much stock and they aren't doing any discounting on what they have.

"The Load", be it 13.0 Red Dot or 16.0 2400, is a "go to" starter load, something to see if there's any hope for a boolit or bullet, something to use in cases of 35 Rem or 7x57 capacity or larger, something to use for plinking or small game. It's not a hunting or target winning load, just a sort of standard "get started" load. That it works so well in so many guns is great luck. I keep a Lyman 55 set to dump 13.0 RD and find it works very well in most of my surplus military rifles, my 35 Whelen and my 308 class rifles. For 30-30 class I use 8-10 Unique.

I got a crffler to pour me some 175 gr. gas checks for .308. these are the bullets for the K-31. I started with 16 gr's of 2400, but I worked up to 20 gr's of 2400. there wasn't much difference between 17 gr;s and 20 gr's of 2400 in accuracy. so I just settled on 19gr's of 2400, its a mild, accurate load. I'm trying to keep the recoil down. This load will shoot a two shot group of 3/8 to `1/2" at fifty yards. I'm a very happy camper, with the rifles and loads.(ok, all shooting was done off a rest)

did you happen to look at the pressure on the 13 red dot load?
