I have a Ruger P94 and carbine in 40 S&W..I want to start handloading with cast boolits. What I would like to know is what type of boolit feeds good and what powder to push it at about 900 fps.
Thanks..Mike

I just ordered the Lee 6 cavity 175 gr TC mold. The bullet nose profile appears to be the same as most factory loaded ammunition so my hope is it will function just fine. My 24/7 OSS doesn't seem to care what you load in it. It has functioned with everything I've fed it. I'll post my results as soon as I can.

I have been using the 2 Cav Lee 175 TC for months now. It feeds great and looks just like factory ammo, like HS40 said. I have been using 6.1gr accur#5 (850-900fps), but have to switch to accur#2 due to scarcity of powder locally right now. Haven't had a chance to load and test speed.

Now that's funny. I'm also named Mike, also live in the California desert, and also have both a Ruger pistol and carbine. I load it with Lymans 175 TC.

Been using the LEE 175 gr TLSWC. A six banger mold. Let us know how the TC boolit works. Is it lube groove or TL style?? I've thought about the TC mold for a while.

I use that bullet in my 10mm and it shoots great, ACWW's yield 180 grs.

I use the TL 401-175-swc over 6.8gr hs-6. Outstanding performance and feeding in my Glock23.

I use this TL 170 gr Lee in my 10mm Witness pistols. Works great from 3.5 grs of Red dot all the way up to max loads of AA9, Herco and Blue Dot.

The Lee 175 TC is lube groove, but I just tumble with LLA. I have tried lube (just this morning in fact!), but notice no difference in performance or leading and LLA is easier.

Any day at the range is a good day! Even if it only got to 20 degrees...

I was using a SWC Lee bullet but was having feeding issues. I was told 40's like TCs the best so I switched and the problems went away.

And the second best thing about a day at the range...

A (large) bag of empty brass, needing to be reloaded!

I just bought a Lee 2 cavity 175 TC mold. The first batch of boolits I casted from WW dialed right in at .401. I had previously used 170 SWC. I did find that the 175 TC boolits require seating quite a bit below the max length on my Ruger P94. I haven't had a chance to shoot them yet to see how well they perform.

I load mine (175TC) to 1.120 and they feed fine in my Hi Point 40. My Lee mold drops WW at 179gr and .4025. I don't size them, since my barrel slugged at .401.

I have found the Lee 175gr TC boolit to be most accurate over 4gr Bullseye in my Beretta 96.
Funny thing about it, it's a little more accurate when I seat the boolits backwards, like full wadcutters. Yes, they cycle from the magazine just fine.

Lee TC mould here too, with AA#7 or Winchester WSF, in a Walther P99 AS and a trio of Ruger Vaquero .38-40/.40 S&W convertibles.

You turned that boolit into a NON-Bevel base and made it accurate.

I use the 175 lee TC with very good results, and appreciate the date the above update on using liquid alox on it. Have also had very good results with the group buy light 40 (about 150 gr) , which recently came in. I am still waiting for a .401 Star sizer to see if that might improve things over the .400 I have currently tried.

I use the Lee 175 TC also and have the Lyman TC also, I load that caliber for two different guns. One being an STI Edge and the other a Glock (I know) What I have found is that the Glock feeds everything well even with the tighter LW barrel i have in it. The edge is a different story, I have to load somewhat long for that gun to feed reliably and found that I have to size the Lee down to .400 but the Lyman I can size to .401. After much investigating it has to do with the nose being slightly longer and the metplate being smaller on the Lyman. So I believe that at the sam given OAL the shoulder of Lee sits out slightly farther. But I would guess with most guns and standard OAL loading either would work well.

You turned that boolit into a NON-Bevel base and made it accurate. A bevel base to a rebated boat tail wadcutter. Hey if it works it works. Not to hijack the thread But I see no mention of the lighter Lee SWC . Why ? No one has tried it or they have and its no good or other?

I just fired my first 350 Lee 145gr SWC rounds through my stock barreled Glock 27 yesterday. Everything fed and functioned flawlessly- although a Glock would probably feed grapling hooks. They cast at 155gr., in front of 8.8gr. of AA#7 and Wolf small pistol primers. The velocity range out of the 3" barrel was 950-1050, the actual average was consistantly around 990fps.

ETA:OAL =1.125"-1.128" which is a bit too long because one of my mags will only fit 8 rounds rather than 9. I went as long as possible to keep the pressure low. According to QuickLoad 1.127"OAL is 5500psi less chamber pressure than 1.100"OAL. Using the factory barrel I want to keep the pressure low.

I had to go down to 1.09 to get them to drop freely in the chamber.

Is the Lee 175TC a bevel based pill?

Been sending the Lee 175 g SWC TL sized to .401 down range with 4.8g of Unique for a year or so now through a Glock 27, and a Kahr... Works great for me, no feeding or leading problems... ever... Just recently started sizing/lubing with the Lymann 4500 (a Christmas present), but haven't had a chance to try these out yet...
