Is anyone interested in such boolit (look at pictures). I will do it for my self, but when i have machine set up it's piece of cake to do some more molds.

It will be one cavity mold.
Price is not set yet.

P.s. I'm from europe so consider shipping and importing

maybe depending on price and importing. not sure how it works. could you send all moulds at once to someone here in the states then have us ship them flat rate box.

i may be in depending price and all the goodies. whos cutting the mould? brass, aluminum, steel? got any others that this person or company cut so we can see? thanks -chris

I will cut it my self (i'm a tool maker) on CNC mill machine.

Material will be steel.

I was thinking to do about 5-10 molds when i have machine set up.
So first of all i'm now asking if there is any interest in such design...

P.s. About the price - will 45 $ + shipping  be to much??

I would be more interested if it only had one or two lube grooves. The way it looks now i'm guessing it's a tumble-lube design. Would this mold be made to fit Lyman 2-cavity handles?

I too would be interested if it was a conventionly lubed bullet. Something like the 200 lyman swc with a hp. Two reason i wont shoot tumble lubed bullets in my 1911s is there dirty and eventually will cause feeding problems because of the mess and ive had on more then one occasion tumble lubed bullets become squibs because of lube contamination and thats not something you want to happen with a self defense gun.

Springfield

Whose handles will fit? I would go for either tumble lube or conventional lube grooves.

castalott
02-18-2009, 05:50 PM
I think I would be interested in one.....

Can you adjust the diameter until the bullet is .452 with 1/2 pure lead and 1/2 wheel weights?

Will the pin be adjustable for depth? ( To make the cavity bigger or smaller.)

The price of the mold is ok.....I wonder about the shipping though...

I like your design...simple and efficient. I might try the wax lube on this one...

HeavyMetal

I plan to follow this thread closely!

The price is right but want a single, standard, lube groove.

Blammer
02-18-2009, 06:26 PM
price is good.

What country in Europe? I could look up some shipping costs If I knew where it was coming from.

Tumble lube and HP may not go well together. Just a thought.

A single lube groove would be great!

Personally, I'd want a BIGGER hp in it. kinda like the old "flying ashtrays'' speer had once.

I like the basic swc design, but I'm with the rest one or two regular lube grooves, but I'm interested if we can get the shipping figured out.

NSP64
02-18-2009, 08:12 PM
I would buy 1 if it was 1 lube groove. Nice looking boolit.

yondering
02-18-2009, 08:41 PM
I'd also be interested if it had conventional lube grooves, not more than 2.

Personally, I'd want a BIGGER hp in it. kinda like the old "flying ashtrays'' speer had once.

Yes! I miss those speer bullets, shot up my last box a couple years ago. I'd love a cast boolit to replace them. BIG hollow point with a flat bottom.

MiHec
02-18-2009, 11:52 PM
Hmmm....

Mostly you want single lube groove - so i will do that ;)

The mold will be fit for LEE handles (6 cavity).
Considering shipping - I'm from Slovenia - Europe

Over the weekend i will do a new design including mold so if you have any ideas let me know.
I will post pictures.

By the way - does anyone have or can do drawing of devastator boolit - we can do clone of that if you prefer to

Mihec designs look good!

The second one would be my choice, easier to get good fill out and easier to cut.

I also second the idea of a "pointman" stateside! This way we only ante up for one international shipment instead of a dozen or more.

Cut from steel and designed for Lee handles, Good plan!

Heavy lead
02-19-2009, 07:29 AM
Very, very much interested, and yes iron or brass please, although I'm thinking with the hollowpoint pin iron will be the way to go. Myself I prefer the one lube groove swc design (post 15 picture), but would take either. Anybody ever had any import experience? What would this take?

Elk Country
02-19-2009, 08:19 AM
I definately want one! Either of the new design, post 15 or 16. If I had to pick one it would be the post 16 design. Please reconsider using Lyman 2 cavity handles instead of the LEE 6 cavity handles!

Just how much are we talking for shipping? Will you ship all of the molds to one person and that person ships out the molds to everyone else or send each individual mold seperately?

Either looks like a great bullet for the 45auto!

I like the second design but i guess this will all have to hinge on what the shipping cost would be.

Springfield
02-19-2009, 11:36 AM
I prefer the second design but it isn't a deal breaker. If you decide to ship them all to one person here for re-distribution I am volunteering. I have honcho-ed 3 moulds so yes, I do know what it entails. It might be cheaper shipping that way, but then again it might not. At least it makes for a bigger package coming over and that should make it harder to lose.

I think shipping will kill this deal unless a lot of folks get in.

Just did a preliminary estimate with UPS with a 20kg package shipping from Brussels (Belgium) to Dallas, Texas (central part of U.S.) with an estimated value of $2500USD.

Shipping is almost $300 for the slow boat.

Could be a bit high, could be a bit low, but it's an average starting point. Obviously the more people that get in on the deal, the less shipping will cost--up to a point. Bigger the package, the heavier the package, the bigger the shipping bill. . .

I'm definitely interested. Absolutely interested. Maybe folks smarter than me can find a better or more accurate shipping (preliminary) estimate.

:coffee:

MiHec
02-20-2009, 03:33 AM
Ok...

I got some info on shipping cost.
If the package is under 0.5 kg the shipping cost is cca 15$

I think that this is acceptable :-D

Recluse
02-20-2009, 06:09 AM
Agreed.

I was just doing a late nate factoring of one big bulk package being sent over to the States for disbursement since that was an idea being bantered about. Then, there would be additional shipping from whomever took in the bulk package to all the individual buyers.

Maybe I need to buy stock in UPS? [smilie=1:

Regardless, I'm interested.

I assume these things will fit in the new USPS small Flat Rate box. A Lyman single cavity does, and shipping in the US is 4.80. Add that to whatever it takes to get them all here to a central point, if we go that way.

MiHec

the boolit will be .453 as cast and it will be around 190 gn. Is this ok with you???

Just a personal preference for .454 so I could maybe use it from some 45 Colt's also. Sizing down 2 thou is no big deal.

Elk Country
02-20-2009, 12:05 PM
MiHec,
I think .454 would be the correct size for the bullet. I have a friend that shoots a 45 colt and I'm sure he would want a few of these bullets. It would sure make alot of other casters for the 45 colt happy as well.

I sure hope the shipping doesn't kill this deal, I'm realley excited to get this done!

if its no problem to do other ones it would be great if one of our desingers would step up and submit some drawings for a line of them. One at 359 to cover the 38s and 9mms one at .402 for the .40/10/3840 one at 431 and one at 453 for the acp and colt. I know this was done with the keiths. Only problem youd run into is the designers usually get a free mold out of the deal. I would be glad to kick in my share to buy the mold for the designer even if it was a matter of two or three guys spliting the cost. One basic design would work for all of them. Just add a crimp grove to them all as it hurts nothing in a semi auto and would make the bullet more versitile.

Hullo all, I like the idea of a series of these moulds, I would take a
.358, .401, .432 to go with the .45's.

I don't know how many of the rifle shooters look into these threads, but I would be interested in a similar series of HP's in say, boolits that would cover at least the larger bores, one for the 38/55 250 gr, 444 265-300 gr and 45/70 300-350 gr
I bet the hunters would gobble them up, I know I will if we can get the designs together, I would guess the ranch dog designs would work fine, I plan to have some of his moulds HP'd if nothing else works.

This is IMHO. Pros/cons ???[smilie=1:

Hello
I'm open for suggestions :-D

Miha

Miha you might consider making a proper fitting nose punch for Lyman, RCBS and Saeco lube/sizers and offer them for a reasonable additional fee with your molds.

If you're open to mold suggestions, please consider Spire Point molds especially in 45 and 41 calibers. Lyman used to manufacture Spire Point molds 357 and 44 but never in 45 or 41. I believe Spire Point molds in any caliber would sell well for you. I was told in telephone conversation with Lyman employee. The Spire Points will never be manufactured again.

Without showing my lack of imagination too much; what would be the purpose of this shape? You say that you think they would sell well, so I'm thinking that there must be a good use for these that I haven't come across yet.

Or is it just that these would be very accurate at longer ranges for target shooting?

MiHec asked me to draw this up. I hope it is what you expected. 0.454" diameter, 196 gr. ready to load and can be seated with a standard RN seating punch and sized with the #374 top punch. The outside nose radius duplicates the Lyman RN design.

Will you be making more of these at a later date or is this a one shot deal? I just bought my first weapon and I am getting seriously interested in hand loading, but I haven't even "hand rolled" my first round yet. So I think ordering a mold is a bit premature for me at this time.

It is a top punch. It is something similar like this

Also you can use round nose punch beacause I use standard round nose radius

One half at the time - it's machined on CNC so it's very precise

MiHec: There was a group buy run last year with the H&G 68 that turned into a real cluster f&^k. In the end it turned out ok and the bullets are fine but the year wait and all the headaches involved have totally banned Lee in my books. I have had the last three group buys all go bad and the year wait is unexceptable in my books so brother, if you can make a 6 cavity Lee aluminum type mold, you are going to have a lot of new friends. I would be interested in a 230 gn government .45 6 cavity mold. There was a GB run at the same time as the H&G 68 and I didnt have funds for both.

Having worked in the machine shop industry before CNC made it's debut watching one of these work is a blast.

For those of you on the West coast the big machine shop show, WESTEC, will happen the last two days of March and the first two days of April here in the LA convention center This will cover 500,000 sq foot and more showing CNC machines and related equipment.

Since my company has a booth there every year I get a "freebie" to go in and check everything out.

Not a lot of "hobby" action but wow what a show.

Miha,

In my opinion if your quality is good, and you offer bullet designs/moulds that folks here want and need and your price is reasonable then you will have no problem keeping busy. What I ment when I said that this could get expensive is, I can see me owning many of your moulds! I also like Iron moulds, and would prefer them to aluminum.

Yes, over the week I work in the office. This molds are done in my spare time.
The time needed to do a good mold depends on material, machine you work on, tools....
What you see in the video is first mold (about 7 minutes). Later on I did optimization on CNC program so now it's about 6 minutes for a (not complete) half mold.
Complete mold takes about 30 minutes of machining - not counting the parts made on lathe.

Nobody is trying to hurry you Miha! We all appreciate the attention to detail that you are giving.

Good things are worth waiting for!

Besides, up here in the Frozen Northwoods, we just received another blanket of snow. It will be a while yet before the casting shack is in operation again!:drinks:

Thank you for keeping us posted!

I found a mistake....

I mistype 11.65 to 11.56 (right is 11.65) - for .453

The test mold was ok and it was 11.65 (.4586 inches - considering shrinkage)

As i say nothing to worry..... i will cut off the remaining material

The bullets cast .451

For the .455 is the same mistake as i basically did the cnc program for .453 and later compensate the tool (cherry cutter)

No problem, I just like to know these things. I have a problem inverting numbers myself. It is just not that easy to send back to you over the pond, if there is something wrong ie miss Dia, and such. You have done great work on this mold. I will be honored to be owning one of these molds. You have really done us a great job on these molds.

I fixed the molds and try to cast some

the .453 mold drops 11.51mm to 11.53mm (.4531 to .4539 inches) roundnes is in
.0007 inches (0.02 mm)

the .455 mold drops 11.55 to 11.58mm (.4547 to .4559 inches) roundnes is the same as .453 cal

Tomorrow i will assemble them and i'm counting they will be shipped on wednesday

Not to throw a wrench into the works but did you mean 7 tenths instead of thousands out of round?

Thanks

I have no use for a .45 acp hollow point mold so that is why I didn't get in on this one. Like everyone else we are very anxious MiHec to have an alternative to the year long wait from Lee and I am finding myself logging in to this thread at least once a day to see how things are going. lol

I've NEVER seen a group buy go this fast!

Way to go MiHec!! I sure hope your next project is something I can use. Have you decided yet?? How about something similar in 44 cal?? Just a suggestion, you might do a poll to get an idea of what would generate a large enough order to make it worth your time.

If I didn't already have a 45 cal HP mold I would have been in on this order. I certianly hope to be in the next.

Thanks for such informative and precise updating on all the progress and even the shipping pics. Like said previous I hope you can make this profitable because you have found an eager and waiting clientele for your next project. I would like to chime in for something for the 40sw with similar style. I think the Lyman family would be getting a little jealous with such personal care unheard of today. All the best to you and your crew, take some time off, have a few cheers :drinks:with your friends and keep'er rollin.

How much of an increase are you looking at? I"m sure you could get 10 in a matter of min. now..:)

MiHec
03-25-2009, 11:15 AM
Ok.....

Now molds are sent.

Until you receive it, here is some important note/instructions

1. Molds need some breaking in
- hollow point pin lock needs to be seated - use a drop of oil and try to lock the pin several times (not too hard). The lock will eventually be o.k. (the tolerances are very high)
- same goes to alignment pins - some oil and some dry runs :-D
2.There can be some sharp edge on cavity - take care of that with caution.
3. Give some lubrication to sprue plate pin
4. Check if the hollow pin lenght is o.k. (not seated to deep or something....)
5. When everything is in place - start casting

P.s. All screws are metric ( M4,M5 and M6)

MiHec

How much of an increase are you looking at? I"m sure you could get 10 in a matter of min. now..:)

I will do that.
First we wait to see if the boys will be satisfied with this mold (quality, boolit measure, shipment....)

If there will be any ideas how to improve i will include them in next project/rerun

:-D

I hope some of you boys will post some pictures of your casting/grouping on target/expansion of the boolit for others too see.

In the meantime i'll work on the price.....
(you must know that 45$ was very "promotional" price - and all work was done by my self)
