When I first started making ingots, I got from a tag sale a large soup ladle in stainless steel.
It held enough molten metal to make the pour and the handle was large enough to control the ladle. I think it cost me 24c. Made a few ingots that way. Need a glove with that also.

I like the Rowell bottom pours. Makes dealing with any crap floating in the mix MUCH easier. I know...FLUX. Still think the bottom pours are THE deal.

Hello the camp! While I'm the newbie caster, I'm a world-class tool dude. With major premise of 40# at a time gets my casting and alloying needs satisfied, I got my spoons and ladles at Big Lots--solid and slotted--for ww--spoon and ladle, stainless steel, no welds or rivets, probably stamped but hd, for $2 per. Cut 4" of wood closet rod, split it on the bandsaw and screwed to the handles. Two scoops of ladle fill my ingot molds.

I got a 2lbs ladle from my local bait store that sold jig/sinker molds. Cost was around $8 its made from cast steel, the only thing I've had to do with it is spray paint it with high temp grill paint.

Piece of three inch pipe with a piece of plate welded on one end. Weld a piece of angle iron on side. I have one that holds enough for an eight pound downrigger weight. You can make any size.

Another source for Rowell ladles is Advance Car Mover www.advancecarmover.com Their prices are a bit lower than Antimony Man's.

Maven, ya beat me to it.
Yep, save a bit and get it from advancecarmover. I picked up a #3 and it's fantastic.

kendall yates,
I use a stainless steel soup ladle I got from a thrift store for $.50. This works very well One thing you need to be cautious of though is that you get one that is riveted to the handle securely. The soup ladle with great along with a large dutch oven for smelting.
