I bought a Win. Legacy M94 in .44 mag this past weekend at the the gun show.
My RSH shoots the 250gn RCBS K sized .431 and lubed with FWFL superbly. The question I have is, will this same boolit with the same load shoot ok in a rifle or would I need to go to a gas check style to shoot through a rifle? Would it need a different lube? To what velocity can a plain base be shot w/o leading.

Also, does anyone have a favorite boolit or load they like in .44 mag rifles. I have wondered if the Lyman Devestator hollow point boolit would be good for smaller whitetails out of a rifle.

Scott,

I use 15.4 grains of 2400 and enough PSB to just slightly compress the load with every bullet I own from 225 grains up to some 285 grainers Drew sent me to test. So far every bullet has been accurate in both wheeler and rifle as long as size stays at .431. If I go up in size the rifles always do better, but the handgun suffers.

This method of loading has produced the best companion load combination I have found to date in 4 different 44 mags, two pistols, two rifles. And I can use any bullet design I have on hand with it. PB or GC, it doesn't seem to matter.

I have a Rossi 92 in 44 and a redhawk. I built a load that shot well in the rifle and tested in the pistol. While not the best grouping in the pistol it did ok. I don't have the exact data with me but it was a little more that 19 gr WC820 over a 429244. The pb 429421 shot almost as well. Giani.

RCBS 250 Keith, 7.0 gr. Green Dot. 1200 fps in 24" Marlin, 970 fps in 8 3/8" S&W. Not exactly an elephant load, but comfortable to shoot and good accuracy in both.

First you just have to try your pistol load and see how it shoots. You never know.

David,

The revolver load of the RCBS 250gn K and 19gn of 2400 will shoot about a ~1.5 " group @ 50yds out of a 9.5" RSH. I hope I can shoot this in the rifle. Would the lube fail in 24" of barrel or would the velocity get to high.

Bigscot - try it. I'll bet it works just fine. My 24" Marlin has no trouble.
