I'm not sure where this should be posted but I have a powder question. I went to my nearest Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday(2 hr. drive)to purchase some powder and one of the powders I wanted to try in my .454 Casull was Univ. Clays. I purchased one pound of Clays powder and didn't notice that there's no Univ. marking anywhere on the container.

Is Univ. Clays and Clay's the same powder? On the jug it gives some reloading data for the 38 Special, 44 Special, and 45 ACP. If it's not the same at least I can still use it. Sportsman's Warehouse is my best place to get my reloading supplies like powder and primers but pickings were and have been slim to none lately there.

No, they are not the same. Use straight-up Clay powder loadings only, not Universal Clay's loadings. ... felix

NO!

Clays is a totally different powder and much faster than Universal Clays. Using plain Clays at Universal Clays charge weights might well blow up even a stout .454.

I have no idea why Hodgdon ever came up with two powder names so easy to confuse. Very poor thinking on their part.

Check out the website and see what they have to say about them here (http://www.hodgdon.com/shotpist.html)

It appears they don't have any listing for the Clay's powder and the .454 Casull so I guess this will be some .38 Special powder. :-D Thanks for the link supv26.
