i just scored 95lbs pure and also have 500lbs lino on hand.
my question is....would a 50-50 mix be good for a general alloy?
i do NOT shoot a muzzle loader, so pure is not that important to me.
i dont want to spend the money on tin to mix #2.
any thoughts?
most castings would be for midrange .38, .357. .44mag, .45-70, and .45acp
thanks again for the input fellas.

I go by weight of the bullet compared to the mold. ie... I have a 200 gr 45 mold my goal is a 206 gr boolit for 45 acp low pressure rounds.. So i add soft lead untill my weight is there, then i'm not wasting valuable alloys.
For 38s,45-70 (depending on load) 45 acp loads use a heavier bullet than what the mold will throw. 44 and 357 mags you may want it a little harder for the higher pressure.
The reason, its very tough to be sure of the content of alloys.
I hope that makes sense.

This hobby can be a simple or complex as you want it to be. 50/50 will make fine boolits for any of the cartridges you have listed.

Your 50/50 Pb, Lino will equal "Teracorp Magnum Bullet Alloy". (92, 6, 2) It's great for magnum loads, but harder than necessary for plinking/target loads.

6 parts Pb to 1 part Lino is very close to WW alloy and works fine for low pressure loads...and uses much less of your valuable Lino.

I use ww's for 90% of all my shooting needs, sometimes I add a little (1%) tin to get it to flow well. My magnum pistol bullet alloy is 50/50 ww and Linotype. Too hard an alloy is as bad as too soft an alloy. I would go with KY Caster on alloy for your Calibre's.

2 parts pure to 1 part lino will do most all you need.
