I have an M-1 which is delivering lousy accuracy along with a .303 SMLE which also is hitting 20 minutes of a berm.

I cast some 311284's and sized them to .309. I added two wraps of 20# copier paper soaking wet. Let dry overnight and lubed with Butchers Floor Paste Wax and sized again with .309.

Herewith are the photos. Now to assemble the rounds and try them out. Report to follow.

Looking goo. Did you wrap them by hand?
Interesting to see what the gas checks do. I did away with mine completely. I also leave more tail to twist up. Flattens real well on sizing.
My Smelly with plain castings is a joke to not be repeated in polite company.
When I load .311 jacketeds I can only scare the berm. When I load .312, it prints like the patched loads.
Gotta love em.
With my Smelly, I cut 2 3/16 for patch length. I cut 1" strips. My Bengals desroyed a set of venetian blinds. I cut one piece to use as a template.
Looking good, can't wait to see results.
Oh yeah, I use a cigarette roller. Makes real tight patches real easily. No seams showing when wrapped, only outlines.

Might try sizing .301/.3015 for the 30 cal an .304/.3045 for the 303. Been working for me for 40 years now. I use 16# paper and finish size .310 for my 30s and .314 for my 303s

Crash, what is your bore size? Try wrapping the unsized slugs then sizing them after they dry. unwrap 1 and measure it the slug should be .001 over bore size. if its smaller then bore go to a thinner paper.[smilie=p:

I slugged the SMLE with cerrosafe. The throat ahead of the end of cartridge case is .316. It narrows down near the muzzle to a bore of .308.

The boolits I did for the 303 I sized down to 309 and then wrapped with two wrapps of 20 lb copier paper and they measure .320 before sizing.

After sizing they are .314 and when I find Lee expander die I will open up the end of the casing and load these babies and try them out.

Update, found the Lee expander hiding in a shoe. Did it's thing and the rounds are loaded. Worked really good. I won't be able get to the range until Wednesday. Errands and moving and such.

for temp use a tapered punch might do the trick until you get an xpander die.

When I first started patching the .303, I used a drill bit that just fit into the case. I wobbled it a little. That worked real well untill I got my die.
