I ran across a guy that works for the the power company. He was inspectiing poles and wires in my back yard. He saw me casting bullets and said they get lead all the time from old lines and stuff all the time. Said they are going to get a bunch from some old lines they are changing out and he would be happy to drop it off for me. Anybody know what lead I am referring too? Would it be pure or a mix? He said he could bring me about 200 lbs a day. Told him I would pay him for it but he said don't worry about it. I live just around the corner and can drop it on my way home. He is bringing me 200 lbs tomorrow. Any help identifying this would be appreciated.

Lucky you!! Heck if you don't use it for casting, make ingots and sell it on ebay!

The lead he is dropping off to me tomorrow is a single 200 Lbs ingot. Have to cut it on my metal ban saw

Guess I better think about cutting on ban saw then. Blades I have are 18 TPI for cutting aluminum bar stock.

Man, I hate people like you!

I don't know what else the power company would get lead from, but if it is from cable sheathing, its probably close to pure lead!

200 pounds a day!?!?! Don't know what I would do with it all in 200 lb. ingots, but with the way things are going, I might be inclined to grab as much of it as I could find a place to stash it!

I would definitely be finding out what the mans favorite beverage is and make sure I have some cold ones on hand at all times.:drinks:

Yeah, that's the best lead you can get.

He did say it was sheathing. But I was not sure if it was pure or what. Should make some good bullets after I mix in some tin or add some ww to it. If I start getting so much I will be pass on my good fortune to the guys here on cast boolits.

This guy will be well taken care of if he come through for me!!!!

Lead cable sheathing. My Father was a Bell Lineman and in the 60s we cast literally tons of the stuff into H&G #50 and #130. There are many formulations for cable sheath, but the stuff he got was arsenical lead and with a bit of 50/50 solder added it worked very well indeed for .38 Special and .45 ACP target loads.

I worked in power plants and substations, and used to get lead sheathing from old power wiring. It is as close to pure lead as you can find. The stuff was phased out years ago, so what is still showing up has to be quite old.....get it while you can!
