Would this Lee aluminum mold be about the same specs as the Lyman 311041 iron mold?

Ideal is close to the all purpose .30 cal boolit. From the looks of it the Lee is nearly the same. The old mould I have casts large enough for the 7.65 and .303 in most guns and sizes down well for the .308 grooves. Good, up to deer boolit.

Mine is a Lyman.

When compared a while back to a LEE There was a slight difference, but as it has been some time ago, I don't remember which detail. I'm sure it is not enough to influence one vs. the other in the finished product.

The Lee has a bit smaller meplat so may not have as much smack down on critters. The larger flat nose makes it easier to get expansion at lower velocity. So it would depend on what your end use is.

What kind of gun are you going to shoot it out of, and is this for plinking or hunting.

To me it depends on the specific rifle you will use it with. I use the Lee in a rifle with an oversized bore and very shallow rifling, so a lot of mould-lapping was involved. I therefore used a single-cavity Lee because it's easier to lap and less expensive if I'd messed up, than a dual-cavity Lyman would have been. However I also found that the Lee bullet will feed in another of my rifles and the Lyman would not, due to the larger meplat not suiting the feed ramp. It isn't a simple question, unless you are dealing with a rifle that is 300 bore & 308 groove, and happens to have a smooth, tolerant feed ramp. Then you can use anything you like.
