Hilts ultimate inferno 35# pot

Guys this is the Hilts pot I was tell some of you about. Its an 35# bottom pour, or you can tilt the pot to pour. its 1300w. Only thing is they guy that had it before did not flux this lead and it is dirty. So I am in the process of getting it cleaned out.

Any one seen a pot like this or had any info on it? I paid $100.00 for it and a Lee IV pot and about 150lbs of lead.

Is this one of this pot that sits on a stove for a heat source?

I didn't see any other obvious way to melt the alloy.

No it plugs in to a outlet. Look at the back of the pot you can barely see the heating element. Its all made of castiron.

it works great, the only thing is you can not control the temp.

So it's just "Plug and Play" with no temp control?

Sounds like it was set up to just smelt, make ingots and to do it quick!

I have a suggestion: Harbor freight has a "reostat" they sell for use on single speed router and other wood working tools. it plugs into the wall and the tool then plugs into it. Now you can control electric "flow" and the speed ( or in this case the temp) of you single speed tool.

This might give you what your looking for and add some control to the pot.

I remember you telling us about that one. Looks great for ingot makeing. How long from stone cold to liquid? And if you ever decided to get rid of it (read sell) I get dibbs. lol Dennis

Take about 15 mins from 25deg to total melt!

Dennis I will keep ya in mind, but dont plan on selling it any time soon.

Well , I got the pot from Springfield and got a element and thermostat for it , I think this thing holds 40 to 50 lbs of lead 1 inch from the top . Only problem for casting with it is the amount of pressure that the lead comes out of the spout , whoosh and lead all over .

It's got a flat end rod to stop the flow but it makes a Lee drip-o-matic look like a wannabe dripper . LOL Will have to make up some rods and try different shaped ends to see if I can get rid of the drips and control the flow a bit better . If I can it sure will make a nice pot for the 6 bangers for sure .

Takes awhile to get the thing up to temp as it heats the whole thing , pot , up rites , and base , but was able to start pouring in about 40 Min's as the element I got was only rated at 1350 watts , the temp gage I have was at 680 when I shut it down and was still climbing then so it gets hot enough for me .

Can any of you guys with one of these shoot a picture of the bottom and maybe explain how the valve is controlled? (I don't see a lever or anything to open up the spout with...)

That looks like a GREAT pot for doing it all, smelting, casting, and keeping up with 6-cavity moulds!

Might be a candidate for the PID setups I've seen on this site ? Was the original purpose of these to use as an electric plumber's pot ?

MMA10mm , The flow lever is the silver thing you see on the top in the pic , just lift the lever and a rod that is attached to the lever rises .

Mine has a screw that limits the amount that the lever can be raised regulating the flow , I'm still working on the screw length as the old one was broke off and mines a little long yet .

Still need to get some info from 1911sw45 on what his flow rod looks like on the nozzle end of the one he has . :)

Yep, I used a thermalcouple and PID controller to control my mash sparge pumps and heater when I used to brew my own beer. I am making a tippy dump for my new smelting pot. I don't want to valve the bottom, so I am either going to weld in some angle iron to simulate a bucket deal, or add a tube spout like an oil pan. Thoughts?
