I have some 10+ yrs old 200gr SWC for .45. The lube has hardened and cracked and most is loose in the bottom of the box. Should I get rid of all the old lube and redo them before reloading? What's a good (easy) method for a newbie without a mechanical luber?

Thanks,

It is messy, but, you could boil the castings, then pan lube.
Frankly, I prefer pan lubeing. I can control the mix.
I would think, the lube on the old castings would float to the top of the pot without damageing them.
Pan lubeing is simple.

Lube that hard is no good to start with and a lube that dries out is worse. Just run your thumb nail around the GG's and the junk will fall out. Lube with a good lube and shoot.

You are probably going to get as many methods as there are posters to answer your question, so here is my 2 pennies worth. Remove the old lube the quickest and easiest way possible, boiling is probably the fastest if you are going to do a large amount of them at once. I own a lube sizer but for what you have I would tumble lube them in Johnson's Past Wax(JPW) or Lee Liquid Alox(LLA) if I couldn't pick up a tub of JPW.

Best wishes from the Boer Ranch,
