I smelted the last of my aquired range scrap today and I also had some odds and ends in the shed. I had a few pieces of old lead pipe so I melted it and poured it into ingots. I also had this chunk of stuff that I thought was lead but I guess it was something else.
The led pipe melted a lot easier than the range scrap and the ingots looked like chrome when I dumped them out of my muffin pan. The other chunk of stuff was a b*tch to melt. I had to turn the cooker to full blast and it finally got hot enough to melt. I poured it into my muffin pan and when it cooled I had to beat the back of the muffin pan with a hammer to get a few of them out. When they cooled, they turned purple in color too! I have no clue as to what that stuff was so I am not going to use it to make boolits.

when it's cooled enough, hold one and tap it with something hard. See if it rings.

Bet it's zinc. Do you have a boat? Fasten it to the lower unit to catch the static and electicity from eating up the motor housing.

See there? It's not scrap after all: maybe. Just don't use it for boolits.
