I just aquired a Lyman 358311 round nose 160 grain mold. Has anyone here got one? I was thinking it would be good for my Smith model 19 in 357 mag. :Fire:

Hi, I do have one and it works fine in either 38 special or 357 mag. Model 19 and all others that use either. In .357 you probably can't go quite as fast as a design using a gas check. Good shooting. LLS

I use it a lot in Cowboy Action when shooting "gamer" black powder .38 loads. A little extra pressure on the lubrisizer handle when sizing them swages a nice flat point on 'em too.

Thanks LLS I hope to just load some medium speed loads with unique. I wonder what to size them at? I have a 357 and a 359 sizer die I am guessing a 359 will do the trick. I know in the past I have tumble lubed lee 148 wadcutters and they are a little tight going into the cylinder.

I load 358311 over 5grains of unique for 38 special which I think is duplicate of the service load. As for size you will have to slug the cylinder or mesure with pin guages to be sure. but if 359 is working for you Id go with it. good luck

The 358311 seems to be the standard RN 38 Spc boolit, and 5 grs Unique the standard load for a duplicate of the service load, as FB says. That is the load I use for svc loads in my Combat Masterpiece.

Thank you much for the info. I really appreciate it. Unique is my go to powder and I love the 357

Go .359 and the 5.0 Unique. You should have a good load. Make sure your brass is trimmed to the same length and the accuracy should equal factory.

I have had a 4 hole 358311 for many years and it is the most accurate plain base bullet I have used in that caliber....bar none! In the 38 Special I use 4.5 to 5 grains of Unique or 5 to 5.5 grains of AA5. Accuracy is outstanding in every 38/357 revolver I have tried, which is several score in mumber. If your sixgun won't shoot with the above loads, it just won't shoot. The alloy is acww.
