I know this isn't a CB, but thought someone might have the data I need. I am trying to find load data for this using Accurate #5, and found a post on another site that said Accurate used to list this in their #2 Load Manual. I don't have it, could someone help me out? Start, end, speed and OAL. Thanks!

The Sierra #5 book lists loads for the 40 S&W with 180 gr slugs & Accurate #5.
Starting load is for 6.3 gr of #5 for 800 fps. Top load is 7.5 gr of #5 for 1000 fps.
These loads were tested in a Para Ordanance P-16 with Starline brass and Winchester small pistol primers.

Speer #12 book shows heavier loads starting at 7.0 gr of #5 and top load of 7.8 gr. Those loads tested in a S&W 4006, Speer cases and CCI 500s.

Hornady #7 book starts at 5.7 and top is 7.2 gr Test gun S&W 4006.

Hope this helps

Thanks Charlie, jives with the info I have in my manuals as well. Was hoping someone had the data specifically for the 180 gr Gold Sabers. They are jacketed in brass and have a wider drive band. From what I have found this makes them slipperier (is that a word?), so I want to find a good load with Accur#5.

For any that care, I loaded 6.2 Accurate #5 and tested yesterday with my chrono and averaged 850fps. Do you think I could go to 6.5 and get closer to 1000fps? Do I need to?

I just increase the charge in small increments until accuracy suffers. I'll take a few fps loss to maintain accuracy. Either that or go up until I start to see signs of over pressure, then back it off a bit. If the GS has the same SD of other JHPs you should be OK with the pressure though.

Accurate's website lists 6.8 gr of #5 as a top load with the XTPs. Data varies widely for a 180gr but I can't find anything on the Golden sabre Bullet. I'd work up a tenth or too at a time and watch for pressure signs.

I firede some xtps as well, but my chrono acted up. Wish I could have pegged down a speed. Would be nice to know the GS are similar or not. Should have brought along a new battery and more rounds. It was a quick trip to the cabin and 5 rnds each of several loads. You do what you can when you can...

aa load data for aa5 and the 180 xtp does not make it to 1000fps...more like 950. the gs have a smaller driving band and may get there. i used aa7 with 175/180 in 40 s&w.
