Hello guys.
I went to the range this last weeck end to try my last changes on Lyman 287641. Weather was near good so I tried this bullet at 200 meters (218 yards).

The boolit : It is cast from straight wheel weight with some tin added and water dropped. I size them in my LYMAN 4500 with a .285 sizer. Each boolit is weighted and the Hornady gas check is crimped on it before the lubing / sizing operation. :lovebooli

The gun : it's a SAKO 75 varmint laminated stainless. The barrel is 24 inches long with a .284 bore and a 9,25 " twist.:Fire:

The optic is a BURRIS XTR 3-12 x 50 in BURRIS signature mounts.

The load : LAPUA .308 brass formed to 7-08. Only the neck has been sized. CCI 200 primers, 23grs of Vihtavuori N130 with dacron puff filler. L.O.A 2.678 inches.

The dies are HORNADY neck sizer and seater, RCBS for the belling.

The goal of the test was to try several lubes. So I han lubed 10 boolits with Lyman super Moly, 10 others with LARS 2500+, 10 with BAC and 10 with carnauba red. The cartriges were fired sitting from a bench with my harris bipod. The barrel was cleaned between each 10 string shots with Ed Red's formula solvent.

The resulst are on the photos. Only 9 shots are on the "Moly target". The group averages 4 inches.
The "2500 +" group is better but it has taken 3 fouling shots to settle (the higs ones). the one in the "8" number is my fault. The 5 better shots are in the 1.77 inches.
The BAC is very goot but toock 4 fouling shots (on the right). The six other shots are in 1,77 inche too.
The Carnauba Red group is very similar to the Moly one but less regular.

I chronographed the Moly load and the speed was 1772fps.

Now I think I'm gonna stay with BAC lube but I'll play with primers. :drinks:

Thanks Scibul, interesting results I have just ordered one of those moulds. A friend of mine who has a 7 (CTU) lent me some Saeco #070 CB's it weighs 150 grains dressed. I loaded my 7-08 with 23grains of AR 2206H (H4895) at around 1750fps. I shot this group at a 100 yards out of the window of my 4x4. It shows promise I will have to take it to the range and give it a good test.

Yes, very good group for a "from the truck" shooting !
100 yards are often easy. Try your loat at 200 yards and if everything is OK you'll be pleasantly surprised. I think I had luck with with this load because testing seemed easy. And if all is ok at 200, il will be the same at 100 and you'll be confident in your gun (that works for me :-) ). Let us know about your testings.
