Gonna get a Lee mould for 45 colt for my 45/410 barrel (TC ENCORE) which one of these would you choose and why? 255 grain bullet 452-255-RF or 300 grain bullet C452-300-RF. Only gonna buy one mould at least for now so I want some input. Jim

I don't know much about your gun and very little about casting BUT....I had my second casting session yesterday with the 255 gr. LEE RF (two cav) and it seems to be a very forgiving mold for a rookie caster. Bullets were dropping at .4535" and 257 grs. or so with straight ww's. With the big meplat I'm thinking it will probably be a good hunting bullet. I'm anxious to get to the range and see how they'll do out of the .454 at 1050 to 1100 fps or so.

Chambers for a 410 shell are much too long for good accuracy with a common 45 Colt ctg. I'm working w/one on a Rossi. The question you have posed suggests to me that you realize the difficulties you'll have. I would take the boolet w/ the longest bearing surface. Hoping that it will remain aligned while jumping the gap to the rifling.

Pepe,
I'm shooting the 255 gr. rnfp Lee over 6 gr. of 700X. It's dropping around .453 running the mold real hot. It's the most accurate round I've found from my '73 winnie. punches one big hole at 50 yds with iron sights. Consistant 1.5" groups. Don't know what it will do in your gun but I sure like it. Good luck.

I ordered the Lee 452-255 RF mold for my .454 Casull and it should be here tomorrow. I hope you let us know how this boolit does in your .454 and let us know what load works for you.

Why don't you let me send you some of both?
I have both moulds and many hundreds of each cast up.
You could then try them and see which one YOUR gun likes the best.
Just shoot me a PM with your mailing addy and I'll drop them in a flat rate envelope.
