Hi all.

I've been lurking around for a few months, reading and learning about the casting of boolits.

I've been shooting for over 20 years and always loaded store bought cast. But since I'm down to my last 1000 of store bought I decided to try my hand at casting myself.

I recently bought a Lee TL-158-358 mold at a fun show along with a dipper. I already have a heat source and cast iron pot for smelting and a line on a few hundred pounds of wheel weights.

Now I just have to wait for it to warm up a bit in the garage to get going.

Thanks for the great site and info. I'll be around alot in the future,

Ron

Welcome aboard, Ron. There's lot of knowledge and refreshingly little attitude here.

The good thing about casting in the winter is that the pot heats everything
nearby and makes it nice and comfy if you have some insulation and no
wind blowing thru.

Greetings and WELCOME !!!
I graduated from Benton Harbor in 1969.. grew up in Riverside.
This is a great place to hang about and learn the better ways to cast and launch your own.
I have been a reloader most my life. My dad and his Navy buddy were involved. Bought My first Lee Loader for my 32 win. Special in 1967. That was my fox rifle... but I shot more fox with my old Iver Johnson 12 Guage Special trap (still have it).
Anyway good to have you in from the lurking shadows.
Mike God Bless you.

Drop the mold and step away from the smelter and we will all be safe!

NOT!!!!! I'm a junkie myself now!! I have a 5 gallon bucket of range scrap that will be smelted today. I am setting up outside and the temps are in the upper 20's. The sun is shining so it will be nice!!!

Could it be the smoke?? What is so luring about this!!!
My wife kind of laughs at me and my projects and says I become obsessed with my hobbies. She says "you'll go all out and get everything possible to start a new hobbie and then in a few weeks quit that one and start another".

I tell her I like variety and that she had better be careful!!!!:mrgreen:

Welcome Ron,

I introduced a friend to casting just a short while ago. He was amazed to find that his first batch was superior, in every way, to the cast boolits that he had been buying (just as I knew they would be). It's a great hobby.

Welcome aboard, Ron! We're all smelter addicts here, feel free to represent as needed. Yer gonna like those home-poured boolits, for sure.
