Outdoor cooking grille.......I cannot find one.

I went on a shopping spree this week looking for an outdoor grille, one similar to the bottom of a turkey fryer. Walmart did have a couple of fish cookers but the one I looked at seemed a bit to light weight and it was also top heavy. And, no where on the box nor in the instructions did it say how many BTU the unit was.

I found a few on line that look like they would be great. They were advertised as 18, 500 BTU, some had jet burners and some had regular burners.

I bought mine on amazon, they had free shipping, it was under 50 bucks. Bayou fryer, I think they said it was a large amount of BTU's. It works pretty good.

I borrowed a friends cooker today and was able to smelt a little bit of lead before it got dark. Tomorrow the sun is supposed to shine all day and be in the 50's so you know where I'll be!! I had 2 propane tanks filled today and I have a 5 gallon bucket of range scrap to smelt. As fast as I smelted the little I did this afternoon my five gallon bucket sure won't take long to do!!

I've found if you can keep the jackets out of the melt they can be sold as brass scrap.

Pot I have is kept hot with a weed burner under it. Scrap is piled on top a pc of sand screen then melted with a second weed burner.

Trash burns off, jackets and crap stays on top and is dumped into a bucket.
Melt flows thru the screen into the pot. When it's full enough, just draw it down and pour into molds for ingots.

Have fun, don't get burned either.

An alternative to a gas or propane burner is to go Electric! I found an electric range top mounted a base to it added a longer pigtail so it will reach outside ,now I have a four burner smelter/melter I use the big burner for smelting(amazingly fast too) and the smaller burner for my casting pot. Works great and no open flame or running out of propane half way through a smelting session.

RU, I have considered that too!

My wife is wanting me to wait on buying anything right now because she goes to alot of yardsales in the summer and see's them all the time. Today she is setup in Springfield at a big indoor flea market show at the fairgrounds and has already seen a propane burner for sale. I am also having her look for any lead smelting tools she can find!
