Hey all, I picked up 170+ lbs of lead today and I found four large ingots in the pile that are marked "Caulking Lead". Is that pure lead or an alloy?

Probably pure lead for cast iron sewer pipe.

As Dale said for cast iron sewer pipes. Usually poured into the joints to seal them. If you ever run into a bunch of lead that looks like tiny noodles its the same thing. It was forced into the bell joints and a wooden tool was used to pack it into the joint.
Some of the older gas mains 6' diameter where I used to work were caulked. When they were retired in place and backfilled yours truely managed to get a couple hundred pounds of this stuff. Made a lot of boolits outta that. Lead is where you find it, sometimes in the weirdest places. Always find plumbers lead at the scrapyard. Usually in 5 lb ingots. Frank
