I was thinking the it would be great if Ruger would come out with a 458 Ruger. I would like to see one on the Alaskan platform. I know there is going to be those here that will argue the point with me but let me say that I shoot 45cal rifles, I cast 45 cal bullets, I love the .458 round!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont hunt big game ( I would like to one day) but I do like the the power of the 458 bullet in brush thickets and eny of the nasty stuff you find your self hunting in. I dont hunt big green field, I like to keep it up close in your face hunting sort of say. If you agree with me you should contact Stum Ruger if they get alot of people asking about this round they would make it happen.:redneck:
Just for those that have not seen a .458 bullet out of the case here is one that I cast it's 464gr and the case next to it is a 30-06.

What is the head size of the other Ruger rounds ?
As I have played with a freinds 458 / 300 Win Short Mag rifle ( his loads are about 90% of a 458 WM)
If the ruger has the same or larger head size , it should be a easy rebarrel

If I had the cash to buy more rifles , I think I might just have to have one

I dont know the or the case size of the 375Ruger. But I know that they make a M77 in 458 lott. I was just thinking that if they can make a 375 Ruger that all most matches the 375 H&H why not one in 458.

Ruger mfgs guns in .458 Lott -- which shoots .458 Win. Mag. too. Or you can get one in 45/70 Govt. -- any of those will manage any game in No. America.

I don't see the point in developing a proprietary caliber, when there's stuff out there already.

here is my 2 worth,
i own a 375 ruger firstly and balistics actually better the h&h. i have meassured the case and it would be possible for the head to fit the 375 r. the case would be about the same as a 458 win mag with maybe a little more gr. capacity without the belt. it would be about the same length being around 2.5 inch. i think it would be cool and would be interested in such a cartridge but...as long as there is the 458 win mag i bet they will not produce the 458 caliber being so close to performance and size of the 458 win mag.
the reasson i heard for bringing out the 375 ruger is to have a cartridge that is 30-06 length without the belt that would be in the park of the h&h. they brought this off in spades and i love mine.

short answer is HELL YESS I LIKE THE IDEA!!!!!!!

I agree. Its hard to top a 458 lott in a standard lenght action. I really dont see where ruger could fill any gaps in what is allready available. The lott will handle anything and if you want to go to a mag lenght action what in the world couldnt be taken with a 460 weatherby!! If your looking for a power level below what the 458 mag has marlin has that covered with there 4570 and 450 marlin guide guns. They both can be loaded to be devestatingly powerful and reliable and fast dangerous game guns.

No way, no how would there be enough shoulder left on a .458 Ruger to be a dependable cartridge. Basically if you want that kind of power, best get the Lott. IMO the biggest advantage to the Lott is the lower pressure you can achieve the velocities the .458 Winchester was designed to have.
Myself, I still like the .416, especially in the Rigby, but I'm thinking the .416 Ruger would be a dandy for the cast boolit game.

Took the words right out of my mouth. If I didn't have a No1 Troppo in 416 Rigby, I'd do it myself.

I have two 300Win Mags, one is a Remington 700 and the other a Mk2/77 Ruger. Tempted to do a 375 Ruger rebarrel.

I'm just spitballing, I don't even have dimensions in front of me, but if the Lott is a blown out .375 H & H, and the Ruger is a wider case than the .375 H & H, shouldn't there be enough shoulder for headspace?
I know the Lott has a belt to headspace on but I also know that it takes very little shoulder for a cartridge to headspace on.
I don't really have a dog in the race as I have all the fun I can physically stand with my #1 .45-70.

There should be enough shoulder, but for a dangerous game rifle, a good sized shoulder is more desirable than a minimal one is what they are trying to say I think.

Personally I wouldn't be going on an expensive safari in a far away place with a gun that didn't shoot commonly available ammo.

two of the most knowlegable shooters i know personaly are my buddy Al and John linebaugh. Both absolutely swear by the 416s and love the remington the rigby and the weatherby. They both say that in there expereinces they seem to hit even harder then the 45 cals.

Definately Lloyd on the .416. My .416 Taylor, a necked down .458, is the result of an African hunter that was disgusted with the way the .458 performed. Yet performed on a similar level as a .416 Rigby and was easy to make for everyone to have one. The newest version of Barretts new sniper rifle is in .416 caliber and has longer legs than the Ma Deuce round.Robert
