I purchased a Lyman .363" sizing die for my Makarov. Warmed up the 450 and started sizing bullets. After getting the depth set, I got around to measuring the bullets I had sized and they measured .3605"! Not all bad I guess, in that I could use a fat 35 caliber sizer for my Marlin bullets. Still not exactly what I had in mind when I ordered the sizer.

Yeah, that always irks me too and my buddy who is a machinist says that they can hit .0003+/- with a Sunnen grinder.

That's just poor workmanship and quality control....or lack thereof./beagle

Ok I now have to fess up and eat some crow.

I measured the sized bullets again after I removed a bump of hard lube from the measurement surfaces. The are right at .3635"

Anything is edible with enough garlic, ketchup and Miracle Whip.

almost anything is edible with copious quantity of Tabasco, Lousianna, and most recently Texas Pete.

Don't believe the stamped size on dies...

How can a boolit measure smaller than stated size with a chunk of lube on your measurement device? Wouldn't that make it much bigger? Or was my year in Machine shop Vo-Tech wasted? LOL

No worse then when you order from LEE a .358 sizer, size some boolits and they measure at .355. Doh!

OK, done lurking! Forget the other hot sauces, try Cajun Sunshine. My regrets to General Mcinerney (sic)

He could have adjusted the zero on the calipers while the two blades were not fully closed.

Question, if you don't mind,

Are you using a Lee mould? And if you are, would you mind telling me what size the Boolits drop at?

Thanks Caspar

He probably had a spot of lube on his MICROMETER faces. A good machinist will lightly clamp a small piece of typing paper (or these days, computer paper) between the micrometer jaws and wipe the contact surfaces. If they are not clean you will NOT get a good measurement.

he was measuring the inside of something so something on the blades made them coser together not further apart...

Probably should be able to do better than that. One project I was working on had a tolerance of +/- 10 microns (roughly .0004), this was on a Clausing multi-turn 2000 using diamond tooling on 52100 steel.
