Happy Australia day to us Aussie's.
I'm shooting 200 meter rifle silhouette and using the LEEc285-130r with mixed results. Off hand I have shot 37/40 but on paper I'm lucky to get a 2" group. We are limited to 1650fps and some rams don't fall so I need a heavier boolit. Has anyone had success with the RCBS 168-sp ? I would appreciate your input.

..............So far as I'm concerned the RCBS 7mm-168 is THE 7mm boolit if the nose fits your lands. It shoots like gangbusters in a Brazilian M98/08, Rem M97 RB, and a M1912 Chilean (Steyr) 7x57's. I also have a very nice M95 Chilean infantry rifle with worn lands, and a throat that ends up under the rear sight someplace :-) For that one the Lyman 150gr Loverin does real well up to about 1600 fps before groups being to open up.

Both of these were fired from the 'as issued' Brazilian at 50 yards. Groups are just over an inch. Thrown charges, and visually inspected boolits. No special reloading voo-doo. These are the RCBS slug. Here they weighed 172grs, dressed.

I've had good luck with the RCBS 7mm 168FN. Not the SP I know, but it works well in my ratty old '93 Mauser 7x57 even with the mile long throat.

I've used the Saeco 071 & 073 castings in pistol silhouette shooting, all depends on which mold you can get the quickest

I'm using a Steven's 200 in 7mm-08 I mite have to use a bore rider under .278 maybe .276. The saeco 071 sounds good. 160gr @ 1650fps = 968flbs. We are all so limited to 1000flbs. The saeco here cost's two much. Mite have to look around for old sock or a second hand one.

I.ve been using the Saeco 073 for IHMSA silhouette in 2 XP 100 7 BR's and a BF 7 SM since 1983 with excellent results. Mine weigh 168 grs. ready to shoot. 4/1 WW, Lino.

Hello.
I'm doing tests with the 7-08 Rem and I use the LYMAN 287641. I cast it with WW (water dropped) and this photo is a 200m accuracy test. My rifle is a SAKO 75 VLS with BURRIS XTR 3-12X50. The bullets of this test were lubed with Lyman Moly. I intend to test 2500+, BAC and RED Carnauba next weeck if weather permit... The body of this bullet is .2755. It isn't a bore rider in my sako but it is in my Smith & Wesson 7x64 :-?. I will post test results as soon as possible.

Have you considered contacting Jim at CBE for an AU domestic 7mm mould?

Yep, the RCBS 7mm 168 SP and it's cousin in 30 cal, the RCBS 180 gr SP are nearly identical except for diameter and are excellent boolits, both shoot very well for me.

Mugs, what load are you using with 073 in the 7br? I've got 071 - 072 - 073 but haven't done much yet with either 072 or 073.

Thanks Scibul for your reply. You got me thinking. The Lyman 641 with the body size of .2755 sounds good. I think the Steven's has a one in ten twist. To stabilise a 160gr boolit I mite need a 1/9" or 1/8". I have some 170grs to try(old Lyman) i'll turn the body down to fit and see how they go. The big problem is to make them fit I don't want them to sit below the neck. Hey Jeff I know Jim's brother he put the wrong powder in a 300 Holland and Holland and blow it to bits. Lucky to be alive. the longer you have been reloading the more careful you have to be. We have tried CBE moulds but had no luck in getting them to shoot. Also have trouble seating Hornady gas checks ok for military rifles and odd stuff

Your stevens must have a barrel twist of 1/9,5" (Savage info) and should stabilise your LYMAN 170grs. Shoot them and let us know :drinks:

Tried the old Lyman 170gr's Today. Turned the body down to .275 they fit good. I put a good load behind them and shot them at 75 yards and no luck, I got two round holes instead of one. I have heard of this but never seen it. It can't be the gas check coming off at 75 yards the only thing I can think of is they broke in half. (1/4"apart). I would like to know if this has happened to anyone?. So what I need now is a heavy boolit that drops with the body or bore rider sized of .275. So the Lyman 287641 sounds good so far.
