Good evening all,

I didn't know where to put this so mods feel free to move it to a more appropriate section .

A friend of mine has quite a bunch of tin he wants to sell. He evidently salvaged it from a plating company that did a lot of tin plating. It is supposed to be pure tin. The way he explained it, the tin was originally in the form of large bars. They drilled holes in the ends of it for wires. It was then suspended in the plating bath (as an anode). As the tin was deposited on whatever was being plated of course the tin bars became smaller. After a period of time the bars just broke in two. They were then replaced. My friend salvaged the old bars and eventually smelted them into small ingots. He thought he'd use them to make boolits but never got around to doing it. He has no idea what to sell the stuff for, or who would be interested in buying it. If anyone here has an idea of what it would be worth and if anyone would be interested in purchasing it please let me know and I can give you his contact data.

Thanks guys,

Phil

Shall we agree that $5.50 plus shipping is what we are willing to offer...or are we going to turn this into another eBay?

We still don't know how much tin is available, what the owner thinks he wants for it...or if he is just using us as a 'sounding board' to establish a value so he can sell it elsewhere.

I say we hold off until we know something for sure.

Well Charlie actually my plan was to line up some buyers at a fair price then bow out gracefully to the shortage.
He asked for help and thats what I was trying to do. Maybe I went too far.
Either way I have lots of tin and dont need any but will take it if nobody else wants it.
Now at least he has an idea of what to do with it and thats the help he asked for.
I will then retract my bid and just watch from the side line. You fellers needin tin now is a good time to get in line.
BTW last time I bought tin from my regular source I paid $8.00 a lb..

Hi all!

Thank you very much for the help and information. I'm going to see my friend tomorrow and give him your answers. Then its up to him. He told me he had quite a bit of it. One way or another I'll get back to you here tomorrow evening and we can go from there. I'd just as soon give you his contact information and let you deal directly with him. He's really an easy going guy, to say nothing of being an absolutely first rate, and I do mean first rate, machinist.

He just asked me if I knew anyone that would like to buy it and what it was worth. Neither one of us knows. Looks like $5.50 per pound shipped would be very fair.

Cheers,

Phil

Hi all,

I saw my friend today and gave him the link to this thread. So he'll probably be popping in here sooner or later. He said he has about 200 pounds. You can deal directly with him so I don't have to be going back and forth. Thanks for all the input guys. If I had any spare money I'd probably get a few pounds myself, then again I have no idea what I'd ever do with it.

Have a great weekend all,

Phil

Phil, keep in mind he would have to comply with the terms of service to post anything for sale.
