UTAH SHOOTOUTS

Schedule 2009 February to June

The purpose of these shooting competitions is to promote and teach responsible gun ownership and give opportunity to learn and practice different shooting skills.

See website for updated info. www.utahtactical.org or call Clint day or eve 801 599 1574

Thanks to Range Master Scott R. Olsen for letting us use some areas not open to the general public, and letting us shoot before and after hours sometimes. For range info visit:

Feb 7

Snow Shoot

(Night Match – Tracer Shoot)

3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Temperature can be as low as 5 or 10 degrees F. after sundown. Stages set up for non illuminated and illuminated scopes. Also illuminated and non illuminated targets. Try out your night vision too. Bring 60 rounds for any rifles you want to shoot (more if you want to shoot some stages again with a different rifle and or scope).

Bring some tracer ammo and or exploding targets. AP ammo is ok to shoot too, except at the steel targets. This is a one time only opportunity for tracer and armor piercing ammo. You don’t have to shoot them if you don’t want to. But I have copies of all the laws concerning tracer ammo and there is no reason we can not shoot it here at this time. It has always been a fire hazard thing. The range master says if the snow catches fire, he has some fire extinguishers to put it out. Obviously, if nobody brings a belt fed gun we won’t see the FULL potential of tracers.

$20.00 donation includes range fee, match fee, venison stew, etc. Please R.S.V.P a few days ahead to guarantee enough food.

Mar 14

New Shooter, (old shooter) & .22 rim fire match

9:00 am to whenever you want to quit in the afternoon. Anyone that wants to practice the moving targets and get their dope down anywhere else on the range.

Bring a .22 rim fire and 100 rounds rf ammo. In the afternoon we will have 3 or 4 stages designed from slow fire accuracy to fast as you can go with 25 rnd mag. Will have a loaner 10/22 if you would like to use it.

This is not Military or Law Enforcement training but we should have enough experienced good old boy shooters to help you get your dope down and any other help or ideas anybody might want. Can try out some of the targets for next month’s USSS too.

If it looks like there are 10 or more interested, we will do the Dutch oven lunch thing. Total cost will be $20 for the day.

Apr 11

Utah State Sniper Shoot

8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Any person can enter. Any rifle and equipment you can carry to the firing line in one trip. (about 100 yards at the most). Some stages will be 5 minutes to walk to the firing line, set up, and engage target. There can be multiple targets and distances on a single stage. One rifle per stage. You can use different rifles for different stages. I don’t care if you use .22 rf up to 50 BMG. Get the job done with whatever you got. You must write down on score sheet what rifle you use on each stage.

We won’t be shooting past 1000 yards. Range find anyway you want. There will be par times on most stages. Some par times could be pretty short.

Prone, sitting, standing is your choice but will probably have to use all three to be able to see the targets. You will be able to use any barricade, tree, etc. available inside shooting area if you like. No, you can not use the nice cement shooting benches they have there. There will be targets as small as ½ moa (well, maybe one or two smaller) with hostages close by on most. Hostage hits are minus points. To shoot or not, is your choice.

It seems like there is a stage of 5 targets you have to hit but you won’t know the par time. Then there is the walk in the park. Bring a semi auto for this. A lot of things will react depending on what you do. (Warning: with the sound effects, this can be very intense.) 30 rounds minimum for the gun you use on this stage.

Bring 100 rounds ammo besides the semi auto walk in the park. This is an individually scored match, but help from spotter on most targets is encouraged (maybe necessary on some). We will match you up with someone if need be. When you sign in give name of your partner and we will give them same place on firing line but different squad. There will be unique trophies for top 10 places, prizes, and dutch oven BBQ lunch. All for $50.

May 9

Vintage Military & Iron Sight Rifle Match

9:00 am to 5:00 pm. This is the day to dig out that old bolt, lever, pump, semi, black powder, SKS, AK, AR, and anything else you can find. 50 to 1000 yards paper, steel, and moving targets. Plenty of prone and action shooting. Probably have some practice time before the match starts to sight that thing in. Must write down on score sheet what rifle you use on each target. Dutch oven lunch and match costs total $20. (R.S.V.P. for lunch please)

May 23 24 25

2nd Annual Memorial Day

“North Springs Shootout”

Three days of any Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun. Come and shoot your specialty and little bit of everything else too.

Saturday 23rd – 3:00 pm to dark – Precision paper 100 to 1000 yards, Silhouettes 200 to 500 yards, More steel 200 to 1000 yards, Night shoot with illuminated targets, illuminated reticle helpful on a couple of targets.

Sunday 24th – 9:00 am to 5:00 pm – Make good use of Law Enforcement running man targets. Moving targets at 50 and 100 yards. Any rifles, but this will be a great chance to use your .22 rimfire semi auto. Will also have Run and Gun down the wash, bolt or semi auto.

Monday 25th – 9:00 am to 1:00 pm or so. Over the cliff edge, angled down, 25 to 200 plus yards, clays, prairie dogs, snipes and whatever else.

I know not many people can make it all three days. We can juggle some events around to try and meet your needs as best we can. Pistol and shot gun stages can be shot anytime in Cowboy town. Vintage military, long distance pistol, 50 BMG, full auto or any other specialty, let me know beforehand, we can fit them in most anytime. We cannot keep the LE area open all the time, and we cannot shoot the run & gun down the wash and the over the edge stages at the same time.

Bring as much ammo as you can afford. Cost will be $15 for the first day and $10 for each additional day of shooting (includes range fee and match fee). We can do a fine dutch oven BBQ dinner Saturday or Sunday lunch for $10 per person. Let me know if you are interested.

June 13

Long distance precision in morning, various side matches in afternoon.

Dates from July to Nov.

July 11, Aug 8, Sept 12, Oct 10, Nov 14

CALENDAR IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE

The reason we separate range fee and match fee is because a lot of shooters have annual range passes and don’t have to pay the daily $5.oo range fee.
