If you load this boolit in a 357 case and crimp in the crimp groove, will it fit in a ruger gp100 cylinder or is it too long?

I don't own a GP100. However, I could almost assure you that it would. Load up a dummy round. If not, then you could always load them up in .38spl cases. But I can almost guarantee you that they will fit fine.

It fits in a Security Six, GP100's predecessor.

It stays inside the cylinder by a few thousandsths.
Doesn't poke into the gap between the front of the cylinder and the barrel.

It will depend on your .357 cases. Some are shorter than others and GP100 man must have the short ones and with a heavy roll crimp they will just fit. Before you load a bunch try a few for fit. I load to an oal of 1.638" and taper crimp in the front drive band, that gives me about .010" clearance to the end of the cylinder on my GP.

Doesn't fit in mine. I had to crimp in the middle or over the front drive band for them to chamber. I don't shoot a lot of full power .357 loads, but I don't like having to scrub out the carbon ring from 38 spl loads, so I didn't want to load them in 38 cases. So I just decided to stay with the gas checked 358156 for full power loads since I haven't found any other boolits that shoot as good. So it looks like there are some that the 358429 fits in, and some that it don't. Just have to try it and see. I sold my mold since I wasn't going to use it, but I'm sure someone hear would send you some to try out before you buy a mold.

I have a GP-100 and the 358429 is what I shoot mostly. I use several different brands of brass, RP, Win and Starline and I never have had a problem with OAL crimping in the crimp groove. The only problem that I’m aware of with this boolit being too long is with some of the S&W’s

MY GP100 won't chamber MY 358429s in a .357 Mag case. They will fit in my New Model Blackhawk with room to spare. I suspect that there may be both mold (Lyman) and cylinder length variations (Ruger) that cause this.

I now use 358429 (crimped in crimp groove) in .38 Spcl for my Model 10 (shoots to POA with a lot of different loads), 358156 (crimped in upper groove) and 358477 (crimped in crimp groove) in .357 Mag for my Gp100, and 358429 (crimped in crimp groove) in .357 mag for Blackhawk. Makes it easy to know which load is for which gun.

I don't like loads that are just shy of cylinder length - a light crimp or excessive recoil can cause a bullet to jump out far enough to tie up gun at bad time, which as far as I'm concerned is anytime! Just my opinion.

i trim my brass to 1.2900 for crimp uniformity. average is .030 to the end of the cyl .
firm crimp & so far `bout 1k rounds with 12.8 grs.of 2400 & no boolit jump yet!!!!!
using win. & starline brass. at the moment i own 2 GPs & cyls are the same length so maybe some long brass????

When I started using the taper crimp on the front driving band and loading .010" short I tested it. I loaded some rounds in the cylinder and did not fire them but did fire 12 rounds out of the gun while they were in the cylinder and got no bullet jump. I have probably shot 3 or 4K magnum loads that way and never tied up the cylinder yet.
