That's a VERY good looking laminate Mosin. A 91/30 I presume. I like the looks of them, but don't have any to date. It looks SO GOOD, it almost has to be a rearsenal, what do you think?

You can determine bore dimensions the same with this one as with the '95 Chilean.

I don't have a 91/30, but I do have the 1891/59 @ .300 x .312, the M38 @ .300 x .314, and M44 @ .302 x .314. Not to mention the M39 Finn @ .300 x .310. And all the bores look VERY good.

So the bores do vary quite a bit. Yours may be smaller, or maybe even larger. Knowing what you have should make the shooting a whole lot less frustrating.

Those rifles are very nice looking. In fact so nice I'd have to say that someone EXPERTLY and I do mean expertly refinished them because they sure as heck didn't come from the military factory like that especially the Russian rifle.

Not to demeaner them, just that they look refinished.

My $69 wonder with her .301x.315 bore is definately not a looker, punches holes just fine though after a recrown job. I like that weight out front for off hand shooting.

My M38's bore slugged out at .310, so I'd check it instead of assuming .314

..................Big 5 puts the CAI imported M91/30's that have been re-arsenaled, on sale maybe 3-4 times a year. They quote a regular price of $179 but on sale they're either $79 or $85. These come with the round 2 compartment oiler, 2 belt type ammo pouches, tools, muzzle cover, sling and bayonet.

I have never seen a laminated stock one at Big 5 before. The rifles are all reblued, and the serial number throughout matches (forced). The stocks are all solid and have had some kind of finish slathered on.

This is the 2nd M91/30 I'd bought. This was a Big 5 $79 item and the one I was shooting at 600 and 1200 yards (according to the sights) out in the desert with some Wolf brand FLGC ammo. I bought it early in 05, and it's Tula manufactured and really nicely finished.

I bought another M91/30 from Big 5 just before Christmas '05 for $85. This one is a 1943 Izzy and it's a 'Low side' version. Machined with obvious haste using dull wore out tools. That is externally it is. Internally everything that matters is as well done as any other I've seen.

The first M91/30 I bought was in addition to some stuff I was buying at SOG and the sales person mentioned they had them on sale at $39 each. I bought one 8). It was a Finn pickup. Had the finger joined stock, SA marked and counterbored, but in otherwise VG condition. It was a rather indifferent shooter until I paper patched up some Lyman 311284's to .316" over the patch. Then it was superb, but I'm danged if I'm going to spend time patching up 30 cal cast slugs for a plinker!

As you can see in this Century add from 1992, the prices for the M91/30's haven't changed a bunch. Interesting that they show the M91/30 as being 'rare' (in that starburst deal. Listed as G-VG cond for $69 dealer. Above that a below are the real gems in today's market.

From the top in case the photo is hard to read is:

M1891's-----------

Swiss (SIG) made $79
US, Remington or Westinghouse made $69
Russian made $59
Finnish made (Valmet or Tikkakoski) $49
Hand picked, any 4 above $10

The -RARE- M91/30 $69

Mosin Nagant M1927 G-VG cond $59
Special select $10

Mosin Nagant M1939 G-VG cond$74
Special select $10

Mosin Nagant M1928-30 G-VG $69

Like to find some of these around for that now. Seems the 'RARE' :-) model 1891/30's have held their prices well, at least while on sale!

Nowadays the M91/30s are all over the place and the M91s are scarce and expensive. I like old long rifles, the longer the better.

That is a nice looking "new" M91/30. The laminated stocks are going for a premium these days.
