I shot some ~250 grain 358318's in the 35 whelen today using 44 grains of Varget/WLR. Some of the bullets were soft nosed and some rn's and 15 were flat nosed. I shot a gallon water jug at 50 yards with a rn, then with a soft nose. The jug was only tickled by a center hit from the RN, But was blown to bits by the soft nose. I shot a 7 1/2" bale of phone books with similar results. The RN went on thru, these were Lyman#2 alloy. The soft nose blew a 11/2" hole out the back and broke the twine holding the bale. The FN exit was about 2" and also broke the twine! I then shot a ten shot group at 100 yards under two inches (off bags and using a 9x scope). These rounds were loaded on 4 July 2006! My records show very similar results shooting in 90+ degrees then as low 30's today. It seemed to impress my buddy quite a bit!

Seems like you have a nice little load there. Sounds like you'll know what you take down the deer with next year.
