I have one of these micro groove 30/30 levers that I have thought about trying cast bullets in but before I buy a mold I wondered if any of you have any experience with this particular rifle (same as a Marlin 336 just not as fancy) and cast boolits and can suggest a mold. Thanks in advance

In my limited experience, the micro groove barrels need at least .310 boolits. My friend has had good results with the 311291 that I cast for him and sized at .310. Not all molds will drop this large, so you may have to beagle. Also, the Marlins tend to very short throats, and therefore boolits like the 311291 shoot extremely well, but sometimes will not chamber.

I have a ballard rifled Marlin 336 and the same rules apply. The 311041 shoots fairly well in MY rifle but not nearly as well as the Lee 150 or the 311291 IF I can get it to chamber with out excessive force.

I see that you are in UT. I'm located in Orem and if you'd like to try boolits from 3-4 different molds, let me know.

I have one in 30-30 and it will do anything my ones from the early 50's will do. Size at least .310 and cast the bullets a little harder than for the ballard barrels. Rcbs also has some good molds as does Ohaus and Modern Bond that work very good in Marlins and Winnies. Mark

Give that little 150-grain gas checked Lee flat point a whirl with some RE-7. You just might like what you see.

I may do just that. I am wondering if I should size and lube in the Lyman 4500 or just use a Lee push through with LLA

Take your pick. Either can work well. I use moly lube in the 4500, but that's just me.

I am shooting Lee .311 170 gr. fp sized .311 in my Marlin with good results (WDWW). The boolit engraves the bore riding portion and requires a firm squeeze of the lever to close, but accuracy is good.

I've found that it is very important to seat the boolit out far enough to touch the rifling. The 13bnh acww & 23bnh wdww boolits that I shot at 1200-2400fps all engraved well & none of the recovered bolits showed any signs of stripping off the lands.

Take a look at www.ranchdogmolds.com, he has molds designed for the marlin with micro rifling.
