I hardly ever empty my pot as I only use a couple of different alloys. It is much easier on your heating elements if you don't empty your pot. I usually fill my pot, flux and then unplug it when I am done, so that I am starting off with a full pot that is ready to go when I am ready to cast. I empty my pot about once a year to clean it.

i usually leave about 1 lb in the bottom of my 10 lb lee pots as i cast with one alloy 90% of the time. it heats up a bit faster and i can add and subtract alloy as i want

I never leave the pot empty. It's not good for the heating element.
Even if I'm going to work up other alloy, I'll leave at least an inch in the pot.
Usually, I leave the pot half full. Doing so alloys me to throw defective bullets back into the cold pot for melting next session.

I'm very happy with the mix that I use for CAS and after each casting session I fill the pot and let it come to temp before turning off. Pot is full and ready for next session.
