During a various phone discusions the Pat and Doug during the 311440 GB, Doug mentioned that he tested moulds with 10:1 lead:tin alloy. Well I cooked up a batch of 10:1 and WW this afternoon and set to casting. I used a lyman 311466, lyman 311291 and our Lee 311440. Samples were 30 '291s, 30 '466, 40 '440 of each alloy. This is what I came up with:

WW 311440 .3122-.3130 X .3000-.3007
10:1 311440 .3125-.3132 X .3000-.3008

WW 311291 .3085-.3092 X .3005-.3012
10:1 311291 .3082-.3093 X .3005-.3010

WW 311466 .3108-.3118
10:1 311466 .3115-.3122

The 10:1 was 10 lbs buckshot + 1lb tin (from the antimony man)
The WW were remelts from a bunch of bullets I got that were marked WW. I think they were at least 20 years old from the boxes they where in. I don't get many ww as I have never been able to score any from local tire dealers.

Kind of interesting I thought the WW would have cast larger. I use a commercial hard alloy that drops at least .001 larger that the WW I tried today.

bdoyle,

If your commercial alloy is higher in antimony it will cast larger than WW. Also, the larger diameter your bullet the larger the difference.

Here is a link with some charts with this sort of info.

Hope this helps.
