I bought a Lyman 4-cavity mold for the 147grain beveled-base 9mm bullet, and I finally got around to casting some, about 30 pounds today. I intend to shoot them mostly in a Beretta 92, but also in an eclectic mix of other 9mms. Does anyone have load suggestions?

I have lots of 231, Unique, 700X, and some Bullseye. I am not adverse to buying other powders.

My "duplicator" load for JACKETED 147 grain sub-sonic Winchester rounds was 4.1 grains of WW-231. This sent the bullets out at the same ~950 FPS average that our factory/issue sub-sonics went from my P-226, and ~1050 FPS from SMG's. Cast boolits exert much less friction than their redcoated imitators do, so what effect that condition might have on the ballistic outcome I don't know. I'm sure someone else has tread this path before--I haven't yet.

...............I use that slug in a 38 Super. Very accurate and an easy feeding design. No 9x19 data though.

Just a satisfied user commenting :-)

I have been disapointed in the Lyman 147 out of my Hipower. I have both the factory bbl and an Olympic arms 1/16 twist after market and to date the Lyman shoots poorly in both. It does however shoot very well out of my .357 Rossi single shot( also 1/16 twist) go figure! I bought some Kead 147's (commercial cast) and they are very accurate and the Lee 153 rn is also very accurate. Someone sent me some rcbs 147's and they shoot well also. I can give you some data that is accurate with the other 147's but thats it.

Best accuracy with Kead 147 and Lee 153 rn-- 4.6 grs Hogdon Longshot-1018fps
very good accuracy, same bullets-5.6 Blue Dot-1010 fps
4.0 WSF-----989 ( very soft shooting!)
5.1 540-----940fps ( I believe this is also HS6)
3.5 Bullseye--996 fps.
I'm going to put the Lyman 4 cav on the sell board since I got the Lee 6 banger, that will take care of my heavy "9" bullet itch. Good Luck Nick

I'll tell you what I have shot out of my 9mm's and that is the RCBS 150 SWC. Yup, feeds and shoots good out of my Browning HP and P38. It's also one of my favorite 357 mag bullets.
