Marlin XL-7?

What's the deal with Marlin's XL-7? The article in the AR last year left me with a bunch of questions. For example how many grooves does the barrel have and is there plastic or aluminum in places where steel is traditionally used; e.g., the trigger guard and bolt shroud or handle? How about magazine box length? Is it the standard 3.34" of the '06 family of cartridges? Will a custom barrel guy be able to thread the barrel so all one needs to switch barrels is a go-gage and a wrench/vise set-up?
