I'll be casting my first bullets this week in .358 (158gr) for .38 special/357 plinker loads at roughly 800fps. shot in both old colt trooper and S&W 686. Next- I plan on casting & loading some .44mag bullets for big game hunting- 250gr @ about 1200fps in a super bh hunter. Both are plain base SWC bullets. I don't want to mess with mixing my own lubes yet and ordered the lyman alox/beeswax lube with a new lubrisizer on the way (comes with moly tube). Good lube choice or not? Will I need to heat this lube? Which lyman lube (or other easily available) would you recommend for the above applications? I've slugged barrels and ordered sizers at .001" larger for each. I'll be using straight WW alloy to start with, but have some lead and linotype to mess with if needed. Thanks.

you will be fine with what you have.
if you want the best price on it just scroll down this page and see lars's stuff.

Use what you have and then continue with 50/50 alox/beeswax lubes (Javelina, Lyman or Lars are all good).

I've made my own lube for 36 years, but I started running low. I ordered a big package of BAC from Lars. It's hardly worth the hassle of making your own for what he charges.

I would not use the Molly tube that your lube sizer comes with. Save it for the day you decide to start playing with Holy Black loads. It will work well with what you were going to do, but it is kind of messy and the NRA lube(50/50 lube) you ordered will work better.

Just don't leave your ammo on the dash of your truck on a sunny day. Please don't ask me how I know this.

Best wishes from the Boer Ranch,

Joe

You can't go wrong with Lar's lubes, his lubes are consistantly high quality, and priced right!

Been casting since 1983, using 50/50, either Javalina or Lyman etc, but recently I found BAC from White Label Lube and it smokes less and the price.....faggeddaboutit! Under $2 a stick.

Your 50/50 is fine, but it's not going to last forever, so check out BAC.

Go with Lars. You cannot beat the price, and probably can't make your own for any cheaper. I have used Lyman lubes and made my own. It all worked just fine. But Lars BAC is now what I use.

On the other hand you could always try Lars White label lubes, they are very good and affordable.
