I just got back from my local reclycler with 500 lbs of wheel weights. He had bars of 90% lead and 10% tin. Are these any good for casting hand gun boolits? They were .50 cents per pound and he had plenty.
Thanks for any help.

I would buy all of the 90%Pb/10%Sn that my truck would hold at 50 cents/pound ! :)

Run back today with a handful of $$$$ and a very big truck !

Al, they will cast ok. I would get those bars if I knew where they were.
I just cast 500 .30cals today. That is 20lbs that will go out the barrel.
I plan on getting lead, even if I do not think I will need it.

90/10 is the mix that rcbs uses to determine their boolit sizes from their rifle molds.
that makes this mix 10-1 and is not necessary for most applications.
but i would bet that you could mix/trade it and be happy with the results.

General rule of thumb is an alloy needs 2-3% tin to fill the mold well. Your bars are 10% tin.
