I'm working on taking some pictures for posting, and I'm having trouble with two things:

1st - what size should I make these pics so that they fit on the screen without making people to scroll left-right to see all of the pic & read the text underneath?

2nd - I've got the lighting thing down pretty good, but what are you guys using for a background? I don't have a nice clean solid-color white counter that I'd like to have... I DO have kraft paper (brown-colored) and a grey cleaning mat for solid-color backgrounds, but what do you all use?

Thanks!

Go to Fast Image Resizer and download their free tool and you can size it anything you want. I usually leave it at 1024x768. I like pictures outside on the deck most but for inside any light background or a wooden table works. Just be sure to leave the white balance on Auto or set it for the light condition and try to stay away from the flash as much as possible.

This one was on a glass coffee table with natural light.

I've found that 640X480 is a good size. It fills the screen without requiring scrolling. My best results are shooting under a window where sunlight covers the subject, and use either my loading bench top (wood grain) or my casting bench (painted flat white).

A piece of freezer paper turned slick side down makes a good background if you don't have any other white background.

For close detail, like an individual boolit, use the camera's highest resolution and macro setting. You can then use a photo editing program (Irfanview is free and very useful) to crop the boolit down to 640X480.

Go down and click the "Go Advanced" tab down by the reply spot. After that scroll down until you see "Manage Attachments". Click on that and then "Browse" to where the file is and click on it and then upload it in your post.

Thanks guys. I've got Microsoft PictureIt! Publishing software, and I use it for adding text to photos, but I think they tried to make it too user-friendly, so it can be difficult to do certain things with, like re-sizing...

Luckily, my camera allows me to set the image size as it is saved to the disk. I believe this may affect image quality, but I'll play with it a little to verify or deny that.

If you use Microsoft Office Picture Manager, "Webpage large" seems to work.

Just an FYI: If you go to your User CP, you can upload an "album" of pics to the CB site here. Then, you can copy the URL address of the pic in your album to insert it with IMG tags and it gives you a full-size pic in the posting without the attachment and clicking-on of thumbnails. I like that, because it's easier to get a bigger photo viewable without the reader having to click on the "attached image"...

If you like gadgets

Wills,

I have one of those. When my daughters start dating, I am going to introduce the young men that take them out to how that gadget works. I will also explain that if she is a minute late or he lays a hand on her, he will find out first hand how they work.

Best wishes from the Boer Ranch,

Joe
