Picked up an ingot of unkown alloy at the recyling center last week. Its 23#s of mat'l lil' harder than lino using ball/anvil (indent) test. MonoType?

its 25" long
its 2" high
its 2 1/8" wide (bottom)
its 1" wide (top)
Has an elongated open ended tie-down loop at each end.

Has place for a mold number (illegible) and says not to be sold acrossed the tip. I'm not familiar w/babbit but it seems to puddle/melt easily w/benz torch. I've seen a pix of a similar one on ebay once but it too had very lil' info.

Any ideas? I've 25cents a pound invested ~ ~ ~ thots?

I would guess mono.

That is an original lino type ingot - worked with them for years and years.

Great! Then its something I can use ~ That would explain the 'not to be sold' markings to preclude loss of resources for a printing business/newspaper.

thanks for the response.

I posted some pictures a while back that may show what your ingots look like:

The pointy ones sure look like Lino to me.

Don't know about the flat ones, could be the same thing from a different mould.

Lucky dog! :)

The rectangular ones with an eye at one end, such as a couple shown in 454PB's link, could also be sash weights.
