Hi, I am new to this site and it is great!! I am going to get into casting boolits soon and was wondering what are some good places to find lead. I know about ww and will be going to scrape yard friday looking for brass to reload. The last time I was there they didn't have any lead. I was thinking ther might be other sources of scrape lead that I'm missing?

When my brass gets old and scary, I throw it into a bucket and take it to the yard for scrap weight. Use extreme caution reloading brass from the scrap yard.

For lead, plumbers and contractors for roof flashing and tear outs, dentists for x-ray backers, radioactive pharmacies for isotope containers, boat yards for scrap sailboat keels and one that was new to me just a few days ago... x-ray service companies for table counterweights.

Thanks imashooter2. There are not very many reloaders around here so the brass at the yard is in good shape and I'm not really into hot loads, just accurate ones.

Roofers just toss out the old shields.
All I had to do was ask. They just toss it out with the tearout.

When it gets to where you have to, you can always buy lead from a scrap dealer or, worst case scenario, a plumbing supply distributor.

Superfly, I'm in southeast Arkansas. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't overlooking places to scournge for lead. Thanks.

The price of lead (& other metals) has been dropping like a rock lately. Lead is now hovering around 0.37-0.43/lb on the spot markets. That's a big drop from the $1.50 it was about a year ago. The price of bird shot in my local stores is down from $50 to $30/ 25lb bag. It should continue to drop some more. I don't know if we are going to see $15 shot again, but we might get close. Plumbers lead is coming down in price too. With the way things are going, it might be worth considering buying new lead again. It's starting to get cheaper than the $1/lb + shipping that the e-bay thieves are still trying to charge for recovered WW.

Interesting, The other day I looked in McMaster-Carr and on the Antimony Man's web sight. Still $4 per Lb. + shipping!

It's actually $1.47 per pound, sold 8 ingots at a time for flat-rate shipping of $10.85. Got lots!
