Happy New Years every one. I have a question? concerning dross I melted a hundred pounds of ww today,I put half of a tall candle in the mix after I removed the trash. I got most of the dross but it contibnously left a blue film . how much of this film has to be removed ? thanks hawkeye.

How hot were you running the smelt? A wag, you were very high on the temperature.

Oneokey you are proably right. I didnt have a thermometer so i took a wag at it. this was my first try I purchased a thermometer that will do 1000 degrees fh. how hot should i run the melted lead? thanks

As cool as possible just above melting point if you can, less thermal shock when it hits the coolant that way and less dimples etc.

I run my ww smelt at around 720°. This is cool enough to not worry about Zinc, and helps reduce the amount of paint/plastic that has to be skimmed.

The blue is lead oxide. If it were cool it would be white. The more blue the higher amount of pure lead. You must have had a lot of stick ons to get the blue on WW. The chem. sign for lead is PB -- PURE BLUE---rick
