Hey it's "Vintage Civil War" so it must be valuable. Why else would somebody bid it up that high? Otherwise it just some very rusty Minnie ball mold and handles not worth the $40 starting price.

Well, for one thing, the owner can't read. The Lyman / Ideal Minie's are #575213 (-OS, -NS and -PH); cherry No. 313 was a #358313 WFN plain base made for a short while back in the '70's and might be worth getting. The -213's are a bit rare without the hollow-base pin, but Buckskot would probably insist on making you one and drop the value considerably.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!

"Vintage Civil War?" Wasn't Ideal, let alone Lyman, founded well after the War of Northern Aggression? Caveat Emptor!

It didn't say which civil war. There have been quite a few since ours, take your pick. :-)

....................If you check the high bidder's other purchases there have been several old Ideal bullet moulds and some Lyman nutcracker style loading tools with intregal moulds. Some with quite high prices. He either is somewhat uninformed about them and just likes them, or he's just off his rocker.

The person selling it is off base and did no work in researching it's provinence. Possibly they knew some quasi 'gun person' who may have said, oh that's a 50 caliber, that's Civil War stuff. All knowing.

Or you can go the larceny route and figure the seller thought to suck in some new CW afficianado by playing up the antique and CW angle for an old abused mould.

But then again when you see current issue moulds selling for more then what Midway or Graf's charges for'em, ya just gotta wonder what people (buyers AND sellers) are thinking.

Darwin was right......natural selection and the cleansing of the gene pool.

Barnum was right.......there's one born every minute.

And finally, the Federal Witness Protection Program works.! How else could these convicted, paroled 3rd degree felons otherwise make an "honest" living?????

(That's why, since its inception, I've only made 2 purchases from e-bay. And those were from intellectually challenged 3rd degree felons, at that!...........Lee ;-)

That's even better than the 1000 rounds of 22 rimfire casings for the reloader @ $9.00 only half of what it was at wally world loaded.

Yep, only took me a hour or two to load those .22's....what a deal ! :holysheep :holysheep I've been checking eBay regularly for a while, trying to find a deal on an ingot mould, most of them are going at prices higher than new, same applies to Lee single cavitiy moulds........ the other side of the coin is once in a great while you get a good deal. Recently got a .451 RB w/ handles and a Lyman 55 measure for $28 delivered and its fun looking.

I wonder if the base pin for the hollow base has to be reinserted after each bullet is cast? Other wise you would never get the bullet out in one piece. Maybe that hollow pointing pin was originally part of this mold?
