what is the best alloy to water drop.? this would be for 30 cal and 28 cal bullets. 1300-2000 fps gas checked . i have a good mixture now but wanted to see what others are using. i know the most answders will be stright ww. but what other mixtures are you making then water droping them? my mixture , jivet to me by another member, is 4 ww -- 1 liontype . what do you think about 3-1 ?

No more than 3-1for most instances of improved performance with the gun. Leave the lino alone when shooting game, unless accuracy at the chosen velocity cannot be had. ... felix

I would not even bother with the lino...if gas checked wheel weights you should be able to go over 2000 fps easley...just use a good lube...as always worked well for me..

If you're heat treating it's a waste of good lino

no not heat treating, just will be droping these bullets in to water to bake harder. i think i read some where that it was the anthomey that let the water make them harder.

If you simply add some range scrap to clip-on WW metal and HT at 450F to 500F you can come up with some pretty hard bullets. I add about 2.5 pounds of range scrap to about 30 pounds of 50/50 (clip-on WW metal/scrap Pb; e.g., plumbers lead), HT at 500F for about 1 to 1.5 hours, quench in ice water and end up with BHN 27 to 29 bullets. By range scrap I mean the stuff the commercial bullet casters sell to the non-casters which is a good, free, source of Sb. This stuff can be easily recognized as the non-expanded, 38's, 44's and 45's that litter firing ranges. I especially enjoy finding big ol' .45 rifle boolits 'cause they come about 15 to the pound. :-D

i just get the mold where it is making good boolits then drop from the mold into a small pail with tap water.
i keep the mold/lead and water, temp as consistent as possible throughout the procss.
with ww's and some tin i have been able to get near 2300 with the right load combinations.

I've used ww +2%tin in a 30 - 06 and achieved over 2500fps with Lee's 150gr flatnose and Canadian Tire Moly grease applied by hand. Not the best accuracy I've ever seen, but +/- 2 1/2 to 3" for 5 shots at 100yds
