Anyone shooting the Saeco #638 bullet. Just purchased one for my .38-55 Rolling Block (1:18 twist, .379 groove diameter).

Looking for alloy & load suggestions. So far have shot mostly Oregon Trail's 240 grainers (way too expensive) and Lee 255 cast-my-own's. Thought I'd give the light weight Saeco's a try.

Thanks,

................I've got it. Nice little boolit too.

It would be the one on the left, and you're familiar with the one on the right :-)

Lefthand target in picture is that slug over 16.0grs of 2400 @ 50 yards. Rifle is a nice old M93 in 38-55. The boolits were WW alloy and simply TL'd and stuck into the end of WW 2.08" cases. No basewad or other voo-doo. Thrown powder charges.

What are you wanting to do with it?

Hi Buckshot~
I hoping it's a more accurate plinker bullet than the Lee. My Whitney Rolling Block is extrmely light, I have a Malcolm 3x scope on it. The stock design isn't optimum for the scope height so mild loads are way more comfortable to shoot, thus the 225 grainer. I also plan to shoot both black & smokeless, thus the non-bevel bullet. Shooting will be 100 & 200 yard paper punching :)

handloader or rifle had a good article on the 38/55 and cast bullets years back possible 5 to 10 years ago

............It's a nice tapered design. Of course moulds can vary and especially those made years apart. I've had mine about 6 years I guess. With just common ol' alloy the base band mikes .382" . I haven't tried to "Hot" it up, because kind of like you I only bought it to provide some lighter slugs for just plain old shooting fun, rather then trying to 'do' anything with it.
