Heres my problem. If I load these to 1.25 they will not seat.I need to load them to 1.90/1.21 OAL or they will not fit in my 1911 chamber and lock up properly.Im thinking that the nose of my cast boolits are touching the rifleing and not seating right.I size them with a Lee .452 sizer. My Norinco 1911A1 has an after market barrel that I sluged at .450/.451? Im thinking the nose on this Lee 228gr RN is to fat.I compaired it to the 230gr FMJ and it is fater.Any ideas what I have here?:coffeecom

Yep.

You have a 1 radius ogive. Which means it gets to full .452" diameter closer to the nose of the bullet than does their 230 TL 2R, which is a 2 radius ogive that more faithfully duplicates the ball profile.

In my own 1911's, 1.220" seating depth allows the 228 1R to chamber and feed effectively. If your gun has a shorter throat, and it sounds like it does, it must have a deeper seating depth and a shorter overall length.

The bullet nose isn't too fat; the ogive length is too short for your short throated 1911 to duplicate proper overall cartridge length with this RN bullet for the .45 ACP.

The 1911 was really meant to work with the 230's of proper ogive shape in the 1.250-1.270" overall length range. Getting to an overall length below 1.2" requires early release magazines that are a reliability compromise in some respects. Not good.

Your choices:

1) Throat the 1911 barrel to allow a longer overall length with this bullet, or,
2) Switch bullets.

ThankYou Sir.I belive I understand what is happening better now.Ill order the newer Lee 230 TL 2R.My Lee 200gr SWC boolits work at the longer OAL. I have come across the word ogive in my research but never knew what it meant.Railbuggy

I started with the Lee 1R mold and had to seat to no more than 1.20" to get it to go to battery reliably but then I had feeding problems, particularly on the last round not feeding and premature slide lock. I bought a Lyman #452374 mold and have not looked back.
