Bought a 2 cav #357446 for twenty bucks at the Bozeman Show yesterday. It shows as a 162 gr slug in an old Lyman catalog. Also appears to have a shorter crimp to nose length than the #358429. I was looking for a heavy slug for .357 loads but one SHORT enough to work in the shorter N frame Smith cylinders.

The Show was CRAZY. People were buying ammo and ESPECIALLY primers as though they were going out of production. Watched a guy buy so many primers he needed a handtruck to remove them. Crazy.

It's pretty much a plain base version of LYMAN 358156. I used a lot of them back in the 70s with S&W 28 HIGHWAY PATROLMAN models...sure wish I had a couple of those big boys again...a real best buy revolver!

Primers have been a real hassle lately. My local shop didn't have Large Pistols in WINCHESTER for awhile...and the price had went up considerable since I last bought some.

You ought to be somewhere like St Louis to enjoy the show...a lot of yuppie types buying black rifles, semi auto pistols and ammo like the guy THEY voted for is going to ban them. You have to appreciate the irony of someone loading $2000--$3000 worth of guns and ammo into a car with an OBAMA bumper sticker!

I thought it looked like the old Thompson design but couldn't recall the 358156 ID number. Good to know this is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. I've got my old duty gun 4" M-28 and a couple of M-27's, so this will work fine in mag cases.

YES the irony of the Obama'ites NOW buying guns and ammo is SO funny. Visited some Family last week in Portland, OR. Good old LIBERAL Portland. Got into the "I wanna buy a gun " conversation with a few of the hubbies and their freinds one night at dinner.

They suppport the guy and his whacko politics....but they don't want the socialist/whacko politics to AFFECT THEIR lives. Very interesting. Reminds me of Fat Teddy Kennedy who feels NO ONE sould own guns...yet HIS bodyguard gets popped carrying a pair of FULL AUTOS.

The 357446s works fine in Smiths but from my experience you have to push them hard.

I've had a lot of unexplained flyers with this bullet from medium to high velocity .38 Special loads. Driven at full .357 Mag velocities out of Mag cases, they shoot a lot better.

This bullet, along with the 429360 are two bullets that I have never gotten really good results from and I've tried all kinds of tricks. Front band enhancement, HPing and beagling to bigger diameters. Nothing cures it for me.

Think it's something in the aerodynamics./beagle
