What molds are y'all using for the m-14/m-1a? I would like to start making some308. I have a few 30-30 rifles also. I have been reading the threads on those. Not much in 308 for the good ol' m-1a. Thanks. Joel

Greetings When I am up there in the US I tend to launch several hundred Lyman 311041 GC out the barrel... I do no have many GC models and this one works very nicely at 2050 fps+ in my M1a and M1 garand. I also use it in whatever .30 cal I desire to shoot without much fuss in working up special loads.

Thats a big help. Thanks. I am gonna get a bunch of new molds and wanna order them at all at one time. The .30 cal. was my biggest concern though. Take care..... ACE

I have the Lee 7.62x39 mould that shoots awesome from my Rem. 308 Tactical rifle. Let me know if I can send you some to try. Later.

Since no one else seems to remember it, I will blow my own horn.

There's a Sticky thread on our forum "CB Loads/Military rifles" called something like "7.62 NATO in the Springfield Armory M1A", or words to that effect.

I believe I used around a dozen different moulds in writing that thread. There's still a lot more exploration to be done with rifle and cartridge, and I hope to add more info to the thread soon.

It was impressive to see the wide variety of bullets and powders with which the rifle would FUNCTION CORRECTLY. I have zero interest in mouse-fart loads which don't allow normal working of the rifle....I didn't pay the big bucks to have an awkward straight-pull!

Great rifles...have fun!

Read this article and you might get some ideas on what mould and loads to try...Geo

I don't have an M-1A but a shooting buddy has had good success with the Lyman 311644
190 gr GC as well as others. Good in the M-1 also.

I have an M!A national match and I'm noy sure if the gas system can be taken apart to clean it, but would like to try the 311041 in it. I bought it twenty years ago and it has not had 100 rds through it.

Warlock, do you have the manual for your M1A? They're easy to get and should have instructions for cleaning the gas system (easy to do).

Thanks Shiloh. I have been looking at that and it is one of my choices. Also thanks Bruce for the heads up on that thread, was very helpful and a lot of good info. That article George posted was outstanding. It was a lot of info and a lot of boolits tested in a lot of semi-auto's. I have found getting the rifle to function to be a primary concern which, I have overcome with several different boolits (thanks to you guys). Accuracy is something that can be worked on from there. Thanks for all the good intel you all have thrown my way. I am now going to pick the right round, purchase the mold (instead of borrowing one) and get started. Take care. ACE

Crabo, that is the boolit I load for my Tact. 308cal. It shoots awesome using Bullseye powder(8.2gr) and Fed. large rifle primers. I can get 3 rounds to touch at 50yds. I don't have much time on the barrel, but I'm suspecting it will only get better when its broken in. Also, I don't use gc with the boolit. It shoots great without the gc. I did try the gc, but it didn't make any difference on accuracy.

Warlock, you CAN break down the gas system on the m1-a.The m1-a comes with a T.M. If you cant find yours, just go online and look it up. It is listed on google under small arms t.m's.
