Anybody got a recent blue book or any other way to check the current price of a Smith and Wesson model 544? I've got one that is new, unfired in the wooden presentation case I'm sort of pondering selling or trading. If any of you are curious and don't know, a 544 is a 44-40 built on the N frame, made in 1986 for the Texas sesquicentennial.

What are the 96 Swedish mauser S going for nowadays? Got one of those too that I think is all matching numbers in fairly nice shape that I am also sort of pondering getting rid of. I'd probably just regret it though.

Thanks for any input

Collector pieces Are hard to value. The S&W may bring as little as $1500.00 or as High as $10,000.00.:drinks: Watch any of the car auctions and you will see what I mean.

Ditto with HeavyLead! Would love to own one, no money, and would shoot it anyway.

The Blue Book 26th edition shows the Model 544 as the "TEXAS WAGON TRAIN COMMEMORATIVE".

In 100% condition it shows a value of $450. Only 7800 were made in 1986.

My book is a few years old. The current value is prolly a bit higher.

I think I've been marking mine too low,as I just(Sunday PM) brought it home unsold from it's third outing at local G.S's. Reading this thread implies I need to stop going up just $25 per show, and mark closer to internet market !!! Did send 4 rifles on to new owners at this last one, for $2245 gross. Presumption being that my rep.for unflinchable "value pricing" underlies all success... Onceabull

I just last week sold my brother`s swede model 96. It was to settle his estate. I sold it to the gun buyer for Williams Gun Sight store in Davison Mich. It was in factory new condition, no scratches or marks on the stock and the blueing was near perfect. I have a similar one in my safe is why I was selling it. The gun buyer was impressed with it , but still only offered 195 for it. It was a Husquvarna made in `41. Robert

My experience has been that dealers are prone to offering 50% (or less) of what they think the item will sell for. When it shows up in thier shop it will be at least twice what he/she paid for it.
