The cheap pine ingot mold handles burnt up on my last casting session and I turned out 2 new ones on my wood lathe. I turned one out of osage orange and the other out of purple heart we'll see witch ones work the best.

If nothing else, they will be purty until they get burnt up again.

I had to put a new handle on my lyman ingot mould, too. I cheated. I just used an old bit of hardwood rake handle, but I drilled out the hole for the tang on the mould larger than it had to be, then filled the hole with Selly's Knead It (it is an epoxy, but it dries like a rock, not clear, it is like a cross between Araldite and cement). I just roughed up the tang on the ingot mould and then shoved it down into the hole, squeezing out the excess Knead It. The Knead It seems to insulate the wood handle well. The factory hadle burnt out in a coupe of sessions, the new handle is still on after about 2 years.

I've done the same thing with Devcon,a plastic steel product on Lyman 4 cavity handles. A really old timer,(a WWII vet who taught me to cast boolits back in 1959-60{I was 10 at the time}) showed me the trick. Rough up the handles as soon as they get loose( and they will) mix up a batch of Devcon and poke it in the holes. Shove the handles back in place and wait. I have several of these handles and have never had 'em get loose again. I guess there is some property of the stuff that does insulate the wood from the metal. :castmine:

I don't have a picture, Pepe Ray, but they ARE making them (these days) with a long tang and a wooden handle... instead of the little iron tab on the side.
